Oklahoma Sooners
Arkansas State?
I know. Why not Northeastern State?
How about Tulsa

Well, at least they'd have Kansas on the schedule every year. That'd help 'em a little. They can take Colorado back.
Thanks.
I would hope so. Doesn't every school do this?Exactly right.
Texas will ride it out, and then make the best monetary/Athletics decision for them.
Everybody else in the conference will simply wait for their move.
Is this really in question?
Big 12 should just wait for another 3 years or so until the current GORs expires and see who's looking around then. No point adding right now.
San Diego State and Northern Illinois are also two of the 17 candidates per the ESPN article.
I'm going to go with BYU. And I reserve the right to be complete wrong, because it is not inconceivable that they are better off financially as football independents and West Coast Conference everything else. But I pick them because I don't think things have worked out for them as well as they had expected.Of the schools that have changed conferences during this realignment campaign, which schools do you believe have NOT made the "best monetary/Athletics? decision for them"? Utah? Colorado? Nebraska? A&M? Missouri? TCU? West Virginia? Maryland? Rutgers? Pitt? Syracuse? Louisville?....

I also think Hawaii missed an opportunity to independent in football. People say they wouldn't have been able to fill up a schedule without a conference tie, but I think they are one school that would have no problems. Everyone wants to to go Hawaii!
Probably not what you were looking for. I agree with you though - all of the changes were made with the intent of increasing (or at least stabilizing) revenues.
I could see that. But I also remember a time when the Hawaii game always ended college football Saturday. I don't know how lucrative the contract would be, but I could see a market for it. Diehards like me would watch!Hawai'i would have needed some sort of TV contract to support them financially, if they went independent back in like 2007 when they were good at football and people were interested in watching them it would have worked perfectly. I'm not exactly sure how BYU has been doing financially since the move but Bronco Mendenhall definitely wasn't a fan of it and that led to him leaving for Virginia

I agree though - Hawaii was in a different boat (on a different surf board?) a couple of years ago when they were battling Boise and Fresno for supremacy in the WAC.
I think you are correct except I would say it is more about the money the TV contacts bring in than the TV contracts themselves...so it still goes back to they move for money. Unless it is realistically close enough to drive to a game, distance doesn't seem to matter nowadays. Hell, even if schools are proximal, there only only a limited number of tickets provided to the visitors in most cases.Fact is this expansion is all about the TV contract, and simply put no program will lead to as many eyes on games as Boise State would.
BYU and Boise State are easily the two best options, they are further away but if the Big 12 cared about distance they wouldn't have added West Virginia.
It's as simple as this who would you actually watch?
Boise State/BYU vs Texas, Oklahoma, TCU
or Cincinnati/Memphis against those teams?

Interviewing 17 schools is a joke. I feel like the comish is acting like Oprah and saying,"Everyone gets an interviewwwwww!"Apparently the Big XII will talk to 17 schools and choose two of them as new members.
Report: Big 12 likely to expand by 2, will talk to 17 schools
I'm trying to figure out the 17 potential members, but so far I've only come up with 14 who have expressed interest as far as I know:
10 from the American have expressed interest (all except Navy & Tulsa)
- Houston
- Tulane
- SMU
- Memphis
- Cincinnati
- USF
- UCF
- ECU
- Temple
- UConn
One independent
- BYU
3 from the MWC have expressed interest
- Boise State
- Colorado State
- New Mexico
Does anyone know the other 3 schools who have expressed interest? Perhaps some MWC schools from Nevada or California? Maybe even some MAC schools?
After all the dust is settled, I believe BYU and Houston will probably be the two new members.
And that they are a one sport program? You also have to compete in every sport. Sports that add zero value to the conference and sports that likely lose money for the university. Would love to see them compete in football, but it just doesn't make economical sense. One of the main problems with Boise is they are in Idaho.
Big 12 can expand but I still think they are doomed.
Within four-five years we will be looking at 4 super conferences with about 16 teams each
Pac-16 will pick up Texas Tech, OSU, Rob another Conference for #3, Some independant maybe BYU just for football,
Big 16 will get Texas, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Some independent maybe Notre Dame just for football.
SEC will get - OU, TCU, Probably steal VT and someone else.
ACC will take WVU
Baylor can go to the Southland Conference. They play most of them OOC anyway.
