That's great and all, but I haven't said 1 word about Carlton Fisk.
Stan is a Red Sox fan. They only discuss Red Sox, and if you're not discussing Red Sox, they just pretend you're discussing Red Sox.

Unfortunately true. You couldn't help but notice the dramatic body difference from when he clearly stopped roiding to the years just prior. To his credit, he never got caught (mostly because he was out of the game by then) and I just go ahead and assume that everyone in the game was on something during that time period.
That shouldn't take away completely from his brilliance as a player though.
There was this guy named Johnny Bench that played for the Reds. Yeah they were nicknamed the Big Red Machine. Wow how could Johnny B. be left off of this list.
Josh Gibson was one of the great ones too from all that I hear. He never got his chance in MLB but the dude could do it all.

Who makes this argument ?
Unfortunately since I was too young or not around to see Bench Carter and some other greats, I have to base it on the numbers that I have... And for defense, the best metric I have found is dWAR from baseball references... And according to dWAR Carter is better than Bench, and is the best defensive catcher... And he had more seasons of being better than good...
Yeah I loved the guy when he was playing for the Tigers but I recall when they started getting serious about testing, when he came into spring training it was like "who shrunk Pudge ?".

What does that mean in this context??
Watch a documentary about Johnny Bench. It's a foregone conclusion that he's the greatest catcher ever.
so because everyone else says it I have to conform... Again, I can only base it on numbers, and through my metrics Carter is better... But I am also the first to admit, that I am heavily medicated...
Bench.
