We’re not looking for your typical offensive coordinator. We’re looking for a guy that’s going to be able to run the day to day of the offense while Ben Johnson is doing his HC duties. He will have a part in developing the play book, but that will be with the help of Ben Johnson, who will mostly be the true author of the playbook. He doesn’t need to play call on Sundays unless BJ asks him to. Therefor, you’re not looking for the typical big name or up and coming OCs like Ben Johnson once was. You need someone who the players will respect and who can teach the offense. He will be more a manager than a tactician. Most head coaching candidates are tacticians as OC before they become HC.

I can dig that.....

This had me scratching my head more than usual. Not about Allen, but Doyle. 28 years old, deemed one of the next great offensive minds. Not what I expected after hiring the one deemed the best offensive coordinator in the league to be our head coach. I expected more of a quality control guy who handles the every day business to prepare the team for Ben Johnson to call the plays on sunday.
I sure hope its not like coaching Mitch of Justin to be a pocket passer. I mean I get the fact that Ben was not going to just put the Lions playbook in front of Caleb, just makes it seem like its not going to be a Ben Johnson playbook now.

Ben Johnson needs eyes upstairs in the booth he can trust while he's on the sideline calling plays and running the team. That's what this hire is.

Doyle is a film junkie and has an OCD for details and planning.

I think Johnson was probably looking for someone that was like him for this position and maybe he found that.

Looks like three more hires to the Bears coaching staff. Ben's not wasting any time and he's nabbing some quality talent:

I remember watching Antwan Randle El like it was yesterday. Now, he's our assistant HC. Time sure flies, I tell ya.

I always enjoyed him as a player. Real nice gadget player, #2 WR, and a pro bowl punt return man. One of the better non-QB passers in the league and maybe that's what he is best remembered for. That SB TD pass.

Seemed like a smart player and spent a lot of time in the league. It makes sense that he is ascending up the coaching ladder.

I enjoyed it. All the way up until the Jameson Williams INT. It just didn't make sense to me. Moving the ball that game was NOT the issue. They didn't need to get cute. They had to figure out how to get a damn stop. Goff had to stop turning the ball over. Those were their two problems.

That being said - I don't hold it against him. He didn't lose that game. The injuries on defense caught up with them. The fact that Jared Goff isn't a great QB sort of did as well.

Yes, to me that's why this hire makes sense. A young, bright offensive mind that still needs a little time to mold and find his own voice.

We don't want or need another ego in the room with Ben. We sort of just need a "yes man". At age 28, Doyle fits that perfectly. No need to overthink it. He'll act as an extension of Ben. They'll bounce ideas off of each other. Then, one day when it is time, he'll go do his own thing.

Too tellya the truth,I dont wanna see any gadget plays.....this team has to be able to know their jobs first, build team chemistry and to show we can move that ball first before we get to that.
And watching Goff throwing to olineman I was not a fan of anyways.......

I am always good for a fat guy getting to do a touchdown dance. We have Kramer on the roster to be that guy if he makes it thru cuts this time. Not thinking he will be playing center any time soon, but would sure be nice to see an actual competition and not naming starters by how much they were paid in free agency this time around.

I just hope its Johnson building his staff and not having people chosen by Poles or Warren, at least it sounds like its all Johnson now.

This is just getting cringy.
what, the fat guy to run the gadget plays at the goal line? Seriously, why did you even feel you needed to show your prowess on that one? Pretty clear I am not the only one that needs some professional help.

Read another article today that showed the reason Johnson wanted Allen, a guy he never worked with before. Turns out it was because he wants his defense to be like the Lions, with ball hawks, edge rushers and linebackers that can tackle running backs. To me that is a key comment, meaning maybe we are done watching Linebackers trying to cover receivers.
But the bigger reason was because Glenn worked with Allen in New Orleans and learned from Allen.

I guess we see if the teacher is really the teacher or if the student passed the teacher. Just thought it was an interesting read and provide some insight if any of the non "experts" who dont know it all wanted to hear it.
