Johnson better be bringing a good QB coach and OC with him.

The HC handles a lot more things than calling plays. It's why a lot of first time OC's and DC's fail. Like Eberflus did.
Well he already has a former head coach as his Def Coordinator.
BJ has said he wants to get as many former HCs on his staff to learn from. Seems to me he knows being an OC is vastly different from being HC and is humble enough to acquire a staff that can help him learn along the way.

Yeah, that's smart

Allen wasn't a very good HC (I know this first hand) but he is a really solid DC.

Ben Johnson being compared to Josh McDaniels as a brilliant OC but he's an introvert and not a guy to get the guys excited and ramped up for the game. That's where Allen could help. But, more to being a HC than just a brilliant OC.

But, I hope he succeeds because Caleb can be a very good QB which would be great for the Bears after not having a good QB in a long time.

And yes I know my Raiders need a HC....

Among the inexp candidates I wouldn't mind Baltimore OC Todd Monken but I would prefer an exp candidate like Carroll or Flores....

Brilliant. Honestly, having Coaches who have made a lot of mistakes as HC can be a real asset to a new head coach. If you’re reasonably smart, you learn from your mistakes. If you’re really smart, you learn from others mistakes as well.

Listening to Martz talk about him makes me very excited.

Not sure who that guy is that Tweeted that but I hope he succeeds for the Bears. And think he can help Caleb, although the QB coach and OC will be working a lot closer with Caleb.

The guy that said that in the Lions organization could be wrong but Johnson and McDaniels are a little similar as far as
brilliant OC's who are a bit introverted. Just glad the Raiders didn't hire him. I would prefer an exp HC.

A lot of similarities to Roquan? That's a pretty big stretch. But that's kind of your thing so I guess you do you.
well I figured you would jump all over my shit if I called him a head case.

He’s still young. If we get Dennis Allen, Stevenson could take another jump into being a very good corner. I think part of his problem was coaching.

No doubt. I just don’t know if his zone coverage skills will fit the scheme. He’s a solid tackler that can hit but he doesn’t play very physical man coverage.

1 person inside the Lions organization thinks Johnson could be the next Josh McDaniels.
I said this as a possibility in another thread. I get it. I could see him being to high and mighty. Failing to mesh with the players.

That being said...

Even if he doesn't pan out as a long term HC. The offense should benefit and Caleb's career may be saved with this hire. That alone makes it worth it. Even if he doesn't pan out for the long haul.

He didn't seem introverted, at all, from that clip of him at Halas Hall.

I liked that the first words out of his mouth to all those Bears employees who were cheering him on was, "Everyone get back to work". Hardly the start of an introvert.

I believe the same thing was said about Mike McDaniel.
From what I've read his personality is closer to Kevin O'Connell. Not a rah rah guy but not completely a wallflower. He has enough personality and his extensive Xs and Os knowledge can make up for his lack of flamboyance.

If a lack of flamboyance makes for a bad HC, then people like Bill Belichik and Andy Reid have had no business being in the business. I'm perfectly fine with Johnson having a lack of flamboyance.

I'm guessing most of you locals already caught this presser from Johnson. But for expats like me who never get these types of feeds except thru searching the net, it was good to see. There's lots to take away from it all, but perhaps the single most important one is Johnson stating he will be calling the plays on offense.

Considering so mnay thought Ben Johnson was going to the Raiders because of Tom Brady....

That may be our first win... vs Tom Brady.
