No way they bring Boise St. in. You guys still think this is about football. Nope, only money at this point. Sad but true.

The pitch to us Texas folks:

1) Add school with little national following that takes a 1/12th share of the revenue while adding nothing.
2) Add zero recruiting benefits from the suggested candidates.
3) Dump the Longhorn Network 15 million and go with a Big 12 Network paying 2 million.
4) Further dilute the pathetic Big 12 academics by adding another non AAU school ranked in the 100's.
5) Increase the chances of making the playoffs a staggering 4%

No school on the planet is taking that crappy offer.
Texas has way too many options available if Oklahoma/Oklahoma State are 100% insistent on this lunacy.

Texas is on the phone to the PAC-12 or the Big 10 the very next day.
I can already see the vultures in California and Ohio circling Austin, Texas.

I'd take the Pac 12 option in a heartbeat. I've given up on bringing back old rivals and continuing the ones we still have. I guess it's time for new ones.

Texas and OU in the PAC would be fun for sure. When UT finally gets their shit together that would be one powerful conference.

thing is, you need to get Texas when they are down. Maybe that's another reason why Boren is campaigning...but it's all going to be too late. That moment is passing as we speak.

I've said this repeatedly.....

In terms of B12 expansion, the ONLY option is to raid the ACC. FSU, maybe a Miami or Clemson......I'm sure all the non-basketball teams would be interested to some degree.

That's the only realistic option. Everyone else are just scrubs that don't do anything for the conference. Waste of time. So either they go ALL IN and try to poach someone big, or they break up the conference......or stay put.

One in the same, the conference HAS to make a move to keep pace with the BIG and SEC.

You nailed it. If we can't get a couple of Big Names then it isn't worth adding anyone. I can't understand how Texas or Oklahoma would want anything else. Schools like Kansas State, Iowa State, etc. would vote to let North Texas State in if they thought it would save the Big 12 but we understand their desperation. I'm not sure what all the rules are for admitting a new member to the conference but it wouldn't be that hard to block a No Name from getting in if OU and Texas didn't want them. Go big or break this thing up.

Isn't there a spelling and grammar test given prior to Big XII invitations?

Everyone would take a pay cut if we expanded, that would drop us to dead last in revenues.
Before WVU joined, the Networks grossly overpaid us to make sure the league did not collapse.

We are currently being paid the market rate for a 12 team league already.
They are not overpaying us again.
That ship has sailed. It was a one-time thing.

Texas is not taking a massive pay cut to go play freaking UCONN or Cincinnati.
We would rather get a massive pay raise to go play Ohio State or Southern Cal.

If the Big 12 expands, you also need to find a replacement for Texas as well as the expansion school.
The Horns are 100% clear on that point.

I assumed that also, but Boren said there is an expansion clause in the TV contract. I highly doubt he is flat out lying on the matter. I am curious if it covers all expansion candidate though. I would think the networks were smart enough not to sign an agreement that led to an additional 20mm payout for North Texas joining

Didn't look like anyone linked this, but I might have missed it

Carlton: Expansion, title games, the Longhorn Network; what factors into the future of the Big 12? | SportsDay

I like this bit,

"If all you hear is talk of constructive dialogue, think roadblocks."

Only way to really make progress is for the Big 12 to sit down with ESPN. Find out what they would pay to broadcast a Big 12 network. Once you have that information, then you can negotiate folding LHN into the new network. Without that you are just posturing

You will do what Dr. Boren says and be happy with it.
