The cold weather doesn't really move the city of Austin itself.
Texas would play at least 6 or 7 home games a season in any league it joined.

There might be maybe 2 games tops played each year on the road in a cold weather spot no matter what league they joined be it ACC, AAC, PAC, SEC, or Big. The other road games would be September/October milder games.

That is no different than playing road games in Boulder, Lincoln, Morgantown, Ames, Manhattan, Stillwater, or Lawrence. And Lubbock, Texas can look like a windy frozen sheet of ice as well. It is cold as hell there as well.

Texas really only had 3 reliably warm roadies traditionally: Waco, Ft. Worth, and College Station.

This is a good point as well. I would think the biggest complaint wouldn't be playing on the road on a Saturday, but walking to class on a Tuesday in the middle of February.

Just say "So I assume you'll tell the Packers 'No, thanks!' if they draft you."

Seems to be working to convince California kids to come to Nebraska. Presumably the same thing would work to keep Texas kids at Texas.

I have sat in the stadium watching the OU/Nebraska game when it was 25 degrees in Lincoln and the wind was blowing 30 MPH. It was miserable. I can assure you that most kids don't want to play in that kind of weather. If it was consistently sunny and 60 degrees in Lincoln during November and early December your recruiting would sky rocket. Weather definitely plays a role in where a lot of kids go. Pro ball is different. You're drafted and are stuck with wherever you have to go......plus you get paid millions for putting up with playing on a team you would probably prefer not to be on unless it's a great team that's stuck in crappy weather most of the season.

:noidea: We've managed to get some pretty decent players from warm weather areas. There's typically only 1-2 really bad games a year, if that.

Think of the travel, kids are going to be more attracted to traveling to LA, Seattle and Oregon than traveling to Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio in the cold.

You will get the kids that are going to go to Texas no matter what but the others are going to take a hard look elsewhere. The PAC is an easy sell but the B1G isn't so much for Texas kids.

Cold weather is generally/usually a non-factor for playing football games in the B1G... there are no December games... the season ends Thanksgiving weekend. Remember that the B1G CCG is indoors.

So, there are perhaps two somewhat cool games each season in late November... the only real exception would be Minneapolis which perhaps would have one cold game in addition to the two somewhat cool games.

Again..... cold weather is generally a non-factor. Any potential recruit thinking otherwise is a pussy who is not fit to be playing a man's sport.

I played football for seven seasons in the state of Michigan back in the '70s, and almost every single starting player preferred the weather for the November games as opposed to the early September heat games. The only players who complain about the November weather are generally the reserves who don't see the field.

Edit Note:
I would define somewhat cool games as under 30 degrees, and cold games as under 20 degrees.

Why would Texas leave the Big 12? I cannot see it happening.

Texas is the big dog.
Gets all of its wishes granted.
Has the LHN and makes more money than anyone else in the conference(in at least four cases 100% more), and more money than any other team in the nation.
Texas has the Permanent University Fund. Which is one of the three best things(IMHO) that the State of Texas has over every other state. The other two being their own energy grid and no State Taxes(other states have this also).

Texas is only going to leave the Big 12 if they get paid.

If I was Texas, and was talking about leaving, I would demand $250,000,000 to be paid for the LHN. Which, according to the Big 12 GoR, is called the RETAINED RIGHTS section.

What conference is going to pay them that? I suppose conferences could afford it, but talk about leaving a bad taste in your mouth if you are a team in that conference.

This is the teleconference,

"Good news everybody!! Texas is joining the ACC!!"

The phones lines are burning up with cheers.

"But, every team has to pay them roughly 60% of your conference payout this year."
"Texas also wants full rights the first year of joining."

The teleconference goes silent.

Of course, maybe I am reading it all wrong. Texas would willingly give up the LHN for nothing to show how much of a team player they are. Anyone believe that?

I agree with Codaxx, the Big 12 should push for a CFP expansion to eight teams. This assures each Power 5 champion a seat at the table plus three others. It would also slow down the realignment talk.

There was actually a pretty big recruiting ruling by the NCAA recently. They are allowing Universities to pay for 1 parent (I believe) to accompany a recruit on an official visit. This is very good news for school that recruit nationally. It is also a negative for schools like Texas. One of the biggest advantages for Texas is the fact so many prospects and their families can drive to the school and meet the coaching staff. Now mom can meet every single coach that is recruiting her little boy. I wonder if this will make national recruiting a bit easier. Probably will take some time to figure out its effect

#2 will happen IMHO. Wake Forest, Rutgers, Vandy, Colorado > TTech, Iowa State, Baylor, TCU, & K-State will be left out. Texas, OU, Okie Lite, Kansas and WVU will have a home...which is hysterical because Kansas is the worst P5 team in the nation.

Their basketball brand more than makes up for their poor footyball.

Texas will leave if the Big 12 ever tries to force them to exit the LHN, which I do not think they can legal do anyway. I think a lot of this is nonsense. I am not sure how conferences and, perhaps more importantly, how the cable business will look in 10 years. I am pretty sure that the college playoff will grow over time, so I lot of what is driving this discussion is probably not an issue in 5 years.

I think it's 2 parents/legal guardians. Very big news here as we have a lot of success once we get kids/parents on campus (great academic support) but it is tough to get the whole crew here.

I hope Oklahoma does get their ultimate wish and Texas quits over this issue.
Because Texas might just decide the BIG 10 is a better fit.

The Big 10 will also make an extremely lucrative offer.
Conventional Wisdom suggest Texas would pick the PAC-12 first.

But, if the two Oklahoma schools keep being dicks about this issue.
Texas might just go the Big 10 instead where OU is not welcome.
And then Oklahoma never gets into the PAC-12 as its dream destination.

Relax Oklahoma, Texas and Oklahoma will amicably join the PAC-12 soon enough.
There is no need to use insults and needless stupidity to try and make it happen immediately.

Maybe because Boren is 75 years old and wants this PAC-12 thing as his crowning legacy??
Maybe he just cannot wait another 7 years when he looks at his birth certificate.

The B1G would welcome both Texas and Oklahoma with open arms if they were to apply jointly. And you'd have a fine western division: UT, OU, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minny, Illinois, NW, Nebraska

The Huskers might have a conniption fit tho.

Don't kid yourself. Your recruiting would definitely suffer because too many kids in Texas have the same mental image when they think of the B1G in November and December:

If you don't look at that picture and think "awesome football weather" then there's something wrong with you.

Well, if last years results taught us anything, it is that the Pac-12 will never, ever have another representative in the college football playoff.

(am I do it right?)
Perfect, that's exactly how the media portrayed the Big12 when we were left out but there is just not as much interest in CFB in the PAC and not as many clicks so for them it was.. just a fluke I guess:noidea:.

2 divisions, a conference network, a conference championship game and..... They sucked the same eggs that we did as a conference.

Of course you would because right now your in conference strength of schedule is pathetic.

Well, maybe Briles should have focused more on winning and less on covering up his players' rapes. :noidea:

Maybe the two are synonymous to him?

SOS is fine. I'd worry more about winning football games than what other's strengths of schedules are if I were auburn.
