Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones Lost Big At 2016 NFL Draft

This is one guy's opinion on Dallas' draft, but he's got some very good points and, if anything, he's pretty entertaining. For me, I don't know why the Cowboys didn't draft someone like DeForest Buckner at DT with their first pick, taken a DB in the second round instead of Jaylon Smith, and then selected a RB such as Devontae Booker in a later round.

To be sure, Zeke is going to be a really great back, especially behind Dallas' o-line. But he was much more of a want than a need. By taking him that high, the Cowboys potentially blew a golden opportunity to fortify their d-line for this season and perhaps beyond.

While I am not a RB guy, and wouldn't have made the Zeke pick, I believe Ramsey and Buckner are overrated. We will see.

If Jaylon Smith returns and comes back as a top five kind of guy, the pick will be worth a red shirt year...big time.

how do you draft a player that might never play again but if he does you dont even know what level he will come back as and how do you draft a basketball player im sure that guy will not be a GATES and thers zeke good back but at 4 is nuts he better be a pro bowler and a the best Rb in history and how well does a urban meyer offense translate to a nfl offense or does it not matter

I think they had a good draft. Though teams with superstar RB's rarely find themselves in the SB they certainly don't hurt your chances of contending. However, Mac and Alf was capable to help their offense out... still, Zeke could be a nightmare for us and others. Jaylon Smith, like Junior for us, will be a nice addition when you played without him the year before. (An extra draft pick if you will)... but time will tell. All these guys look good on paper right now.

You trust your doctors. I heard there is an 80 percent chance he fully recovers. Yes, there is a gamble but Tunsil is a gamble for his choices, Nkemdiche is a gamble because he never actually performed on the field in college and his choices, and Doctson is a gamble. Smith was possibly the best player in this draft...question is can he return to the same level?

Gathers was a sixth round pick. The man is a huge athlete with upside. To me, this is what the late rounds are about. A sixth round pick is much closer to being an UDFA than they are to being a first round star, so why not take what you can't teach...athletic freak?

Zeke is a great prospect. Drafting a RB this high does go against many people's philosophies, mine included, but Dallas has one of the best offenses in football already and a short window to win. Zeke is a true three down back and may be able to help keep Romo upright.

I agree with you. I am the one who has been anti-RB for a long time and have gone through and shown the Vikings win/loss since drafting AP and how they had one decent playoff run. All a great RB can do is maybe prevent you from being terrible but also prevent you from getting top tier talent on your team.

The Dallas situation is different. They have a very short window to win a SB, so they needed an impact player. Like I said, I think this draft was highly overrated and two of the most highly overrated players were at positions of need for Dallas...Buckner and Ramsey.

Yep. I have been trying to name the teams that were built around a RB and won a title. I came up with the Cowboys of the early 90's, Riggin's Redskins and maybe Terrell Davis in Denver. Every example I could come up with was from another era. I guess you can argue that Lynch was huge for Seattle but we all know it was the defense first. To me you never take a RB this early when more difficult positions to fill can be filled.

Besides anyone showing off his abs in formal wear is a total douche.

I think they could've gotten much better value at 4 then they did with Zeke but they probably got a good player for a long time with him. I think ramsey should've been their pick though. As for smith, who knows. It's high risk high reward. Earlier than I would've taken him but it could pay off.

Mostly due to Favre, his arrival took that team to a new level. When he regressed he took the team down with him while AP stayed and remained very good.

I'm not saying AP single handedly took them there. But no player does. I don't think a RB like Elliott is a good value at 4 but saying he can't carry you to a super bowl isn't the reason. A CB or a DE isn't gonna carry you to a super bowl either yet there have been great CBs, DEs, and RBs on championship teams.

Yea exactly. I think hes a good player and he'll do well with them but hes not AP or Gurley. He wasnt worth the 4th pick.
