If the NFL does get something like that, what happens to the absurd contract the Browns gave Watson? Honest question, I have no idea. Could the Browns void the contract? It seems ridiculous they could be held to pay him money for doing nothing but bring shame to the team. If Watson is suspended for 1 year he will be useless when and if he returns. Not playing for 2+ years and he is supposed to jump on the field and compete with the best? LOL!
I *THINK* what happens is that the contract is just pushed back by a year? So, his contract wouldn't actually start until 2023...though I could be completely wrong...

I disagree with the Judge. There is no precedent here.
What I have been saying the entire time.

You can't point to anything like this that has happened with any other player.

I also disagree that the 4 examples brought forth by the NFL were considered 1 action - how anyone comes up with that process is beyond me. So, if you kill 4 people, but only get caught after the fact - you only get charged with 1 murder? GTFOH....

I tend to forget about Watson contract tolling if suspended for a full season ( or longer as there is no cap for an indefinite suspension) and makes it more understandable why talk of a immense fine is going around. The tolling aspect really works out well for the Browns, though one has to wonder what effect not playing for an extended time has on a player, especially a QB. Hope we hear the final word from the NFL soon.

The Browns are going to start Watson in the upcoming preseason game. I would have thought they would have started Brissett since he will be the starter for 8-12 games, possibly the entire season.

My guess is this:

He missed all of last year - and he may miss anywhere from 6-12-17 games this year.

If they can get him 1, or even 2, pre-season games in - I think they would want to do that because it may be the only live "action" he'll see between a lot of downtime.

Yeah, I understand what you are saying. Although, many analysts and talk shows are saying the Browns are a playoff contending team, yet they are giving all the reps to Watson and starting Watson who can possibly miss a 2nd consecutive season. I think they would like Brissett & receivers, offensive line and all to be on the same page.

could be the Browns are trying to get a decision sooner rather than later as if they suspend him a full year he is not allowed to play Friday.

Interesting. I keep in touch with family/friends back home in NE Ohio all the time. And not once were any of them "drinking the Baker koolaid". Usually it was the exact opposite.

It's probably from years of being fans of a cursed franchise, and the resulting low expectations. I have a couple of relatives who are Jets fans who are the same way.

Not to be rude but is reading comprehension and issue for you? Because I clearly said I don't know anyone back home that was drinking the Mayfield koolaid.

Probably one of the only ways Watson was going to agree to go to Cleveland. If you recall, he originally turned them down. Guaranteeing the contract 100% and being willing to not claw back money for any suspension likely made that a no-brainer from a financial standpoint. He likely knew at that point he was going to get suspended. Might as well go somewhere where the team wasn't going to take his money back.

I don't believe a non-governmental organisation can legally decide it can act in a 'not normal' way based on who commits an offence. It's not about what the offence is. It's about an employer, with a disciplinary procedure agreed with a union, treating all union employees the same way. It can't punish 1 union member with a $10 fine and another union member with a $1,000,000 fine for the same offence.
Maybe my understanding of US law is wrong.

This is accurate.

Apparently Brissett is just a body. They are already looking to get another qb if the suspension is longer.
