There has to be a better 5th starter than Hudson right?

Im fairly certain it was a solid year but wasn't he a starter for like 1 season with them? Otherwise hurt and no in the pen?

I just think it doesn't give a fair representation of the actual team. Then you'll have Stan Musial in left field and Albert Pujols at first base. It just makes it feel too much like a video game for me
So you're saying its more realistic for an all-time Cardinals team to put Pujols on the bench because Musial started 989 Games at 1B and only started 868 at LF and 680 at RF and 305 in CF?

Thats nuts.

If you want to make that your team, you're free to do so, but I feel like mine are more authentic. But to each his own

You could certainly go with Ian Kennedy

My point is, it would be gay to have Larry Doby in left field, Earl Averill in center field, and Tris Speaker in right field. It's just not realistic

Arizona Diamondbacks

C- Miguel Montero
1B- Mark Grace (I'm going to get shit for this one- but he did play 3 seasons with ARI!)
2B- Jay Bell
3B- Matt Williams
SS- Stephen Drew
LF- Luis Gonzalez
CF- Steve Finley
RF- Justin Upton

SP- Randy Johnson
SP- Curt Schilling
SP- Brandon Webb
SP- Dan Haren
SP- Daniel Hudson

RP- Brad Ziegler
RP- Matt Mantei
RP- Byung-Hyun Kim
RP- Brandon Lyon
Long-man/sixth starter- Miguel Batista
SU- Jose Valverde
CL- J.J. Putz

Backup catcher- Damian Miller
Backup CI- Paul Goldschmidt
Backup MI- Aaron Hill
Backup OF- A.J. Pollock
Backup OF- Chris Young

OK....what odd bit of mathematics have you used to put Grace over Goldschmidt? Mind you, I live in Arizona and can compare them first hand. There is not a GM in baseball who would swap two and a half of ANY of Paul Goldschmidt's season for the two and a half seasons Grace had in AZ. So dazzle me, dude. EXPLAIN!

Grace played 15 seasons, while Goldschmidt has played 4 full ones. That didn't take a lot of math

I clearly stated that the player's career contributions would be factored in, not just the seasons they played with the team. I think it was in the first or second post

Id go Josh Collmenter... really sad they have such crap for the 5th... But they are pretty decent in the first 4, and near elite 1-2 punch...

But quality of play should be taken into account more than quantity... No??

There should be a mix. 10 seasons of 148 wRC+ trumps 15 seasons of 120, but 4 seasons does not.

WHAT? So it is the best players - ringers - you can find for a team? Thus HOFer Al Simmons should be on the Tigers team because he played ONE of his twenty years with the Tigers? Or have you set up a RULE on that?

Yeah, I did. You have to play 5 years to qualify. You should really try reading... things

That is an asinine rule.

Are you saying Griffey should be considered for the Reds outfield? He was good in Cincy, but he was ELITE for Seattle, and any consideration would come from his years with Seattle.

And if Ichiro were to play for the Marlins in '17, you would list him as their right fielder? That makes no sense.

So you made up a game, made up a myriad of (your own) rules? And amazingly found people who will play along. Truly astounding. How long until you take your ball and go home?

Your premise makes sense. Can't stick a natural 1B in LF just because it helps the lineup.

But in the case of Musial he played 868 games in left. That's over 5 seasons of games, which is the length that guys have to play for a team to qualify. That's a huge sample. He played a huge part of his career in the OF. I know in the mock drafts on here we do, Musial is always viewed properly if the owner has him in left(pretty much every draft).

I get your reasoning completely. But guys with huge samples like Musial can clearly be counted at multiple spots.

But when Goldshmidt's best 3 seasons were all better than Grace's Best season... doesn't that say that Goldshmidt had better quality seasons

Again, no. Ichiro didn't play 5 years in Miami

Nobody held a gun to your head and said you had to participate. Make your own thread with your own teams if you don't like it so much
