That argument could be made using ERA and not FIP. But I wasn't trying to be specific. I'm just saying that it is entirely possible for a player to have a better 2-3 seasons than another play's best season, and still have not had good a career because of injuries or other strange scenarios with the player, like leaving to become a priest or getting arrested for murder or something
Goldschmidt has basically had a 4 year career, so let's look at that. Grace put up 4 seasons with a wRC+ equal to or better than 130. Goldschmidt has put up 3. Granted, Goldy was better in three of those years. I'm not saying Goldy is not a better player through his first 4 full seasons. I'm not saying he won't be a better player when his career is over, or even while he's playing. I'm saying right now Grace has had/had a better careerI will admit, i was too strong with my comment... But there is a difference in magnitude too, not just if a player had better seasons, but how much better is just as important...
If you took Mark Grace's best 7 seasons, and then compared it to Goldy's 6 season career, who would have the better career?? It wouldn't even be close!!!
I see you are a big sample size person, so am i, BUT if an event happens often enough, you don't need the sample size to be large, you can make an accurate analysis with it...
For example, if you throw a dice 20 times and get 18 6's are you going to believe it is a fair die?? Yes, it is possible that it is, but the probability is just so minuscule that you can make a conclusion there and be correct nearly every time...
I do believe that Goldy has done enough where you can call him the better player than Grace...
How does it do that if u use the players stats on another team? This should be about how a player did on the team not playing for someone elseI just think it doesn't give a fair representation of the actual team. Then you'll have Stan Musial in left field and Albert Pujols at first base. It just makes it feel too much like a video game for me
I can't help but feel like you committed a crime by putting the babe on that team
