But when Goldshmidt's best 3 seasons were all better than Grace's Best season... doesn't that say that Goldshmidt had better quality seasons
Grace had at least a couple seasons better than Goldschmidt's 2014 season. What if Goldy gets hit by a train tomorrow?

Wouldn't change the fact that Goldy had better best seasons...

Your premise makes sense. Can't stick a natural 1B in LF just because it helps the lineup.

But in the case of Musial he played 868 games in left. That's over 5 seasons of games, which is the length that guys have to play for a team to qualify. That's a huge sample. He played a huge part of his career in the OF. I know in the mock drafts on here we do, Musial is always viewed properly if the owner has him in left(pretty much every draft).

I get your reasoning completely. But guys with huge samples like Musial can clearly be counted at multiple spots.
I also get where you're coming from. It's the letter of the law that matters. But I, as you may have surmised, don't like grey area. I think it's best if we say quantitatively who can or cannot play a position. Now if we wanted to make a rule that something like 30 or 40% of games must be played at a position to qualify, I would be down with it

I stated "if Ichiro were to play for the Marlins in '17"
And then what if Ichiro had a .900 OPS this year and next?

The point of my game is to see the best roster for a team with a player with extended time. That's what's fun for me. Of course, it'd be ridiculous to put Jimmie Foxx at 1B for the Phillies, so I came up with the 5 year qualification. If you don't like it; again, fine.

So, if Goldschmidt died today, you'd rather have his career than Grace's?

yup... I will admit Grace had a better career than I remembered... I will take quality over quantity every time as long as there is proof that the quality is not an outlier... Having 2-3 seasons better than a players best season is enough proof that his quality is better...

So, is J.R. Richard better than Tom Glavine? 95% likely, Goldy will have the better career. But the point is, he hasn't; at least not yet

Bad example, because I don't measure pitchers the same as you... I don't see JR Richards to have 2 better seasons...

1978 and 1979? Which Glavine seasons are better? Especially '79?

None better than 1979, but that was his best season, you can easily make the argument that Glavine's 1998,1991, and 1992 were better than Richard's next best season...

That argument could be made using ERA and not FIP. But I wasn't trying to be specific. I'm just saying that it is entirely possible for a player to have a better 2-3 seasons than another play's best season, and still have not had good a career because of injuries or other strange scenarios with the player, like leaving to become a priest or getting arrested for murder or something

Without having read the entire thread, let me just say that OP is a flaming heauxmeaux who doesn't know what he's talking about and he couldn't be more wrong about whatever it was he posted about some team or other.
