I honestly feel like even if they are going after 2nd tier guys that are solid players or starters they should be trying to sign them I'm not even hearing rumors just crickets about the 9ers.

don't know for sure but think the 2nd tier guys HAVE to wait till the biggest names sign first? Cause teams negotiate with big names first, to see if they can get 'lower' prices. Then for teams like us who stick to 'value', then work with 2nd tier guys.

the other reason is.......you then have numbers to judge off of? So 2nd tier agents can then negotiate better with teams.

Then why save so much money.

Did you see the product on the field last year. what Im getting from you is that you are ok with what we have and you think we have a good team. Well you can spend money on this team if you want. Im not this year. Not buying 1 49ers product and not getting the NFL ticket to watch this team. Why waste money. York and Baalke gives 2 craps about the fan base and improving this team. Remember when we were good we were like 1 player away and they never made the move for those 3 years. I always gave Baalke the benefit of the doubt but now I'm on the bandwagon of getting rid of him. The only thing he does well is contracts he gives to our own players on the team. He is so so on drafting, scared to make trades, scared to make a big move in FA. I thought last year was bad well this year sucks so far. Still time to change my mind but right now Im pissed. As a fan you should be pissed to.

All this money and nothing yet. I know its not over and there are still some players that can help us but if not I want him gone and my support for this team next year will be none. I will always love the 49ers and always be a fan but its time to take a stance. York thought by getting a new stadium he didn't have to do anything. WRONG. we want to see a good product on the field. Not some crap team that a college team might be able to beat. They talked about how much cap they will have this coming year and they do nothing. Pathetic.

Again sorry for the rant I'm just pissed.

Again, you build from the draft. So as much as fans SAY it, you still want to go out and spend big on free agents??? having cap space is obviusly good, but you still don't go out and over pay for the biggest names. You can't build via free agency.

Also again, Baalke WILL sign free agents, he always does. Name a year where he didn't sign any?

Again It doesn't have to be Top players but players that can help. Last year and the year before he didn't do that. I got T. Smith but all others were pointless moves. I agree with you that you can't build through FA but FA does help.

Tell me this when was the last FA the 49ers picked up that panned out? Clements. Baalke isn't good at Free agency. Thats a fact. He always looks for the cheap players. Sometimes you need to go for it.

Again i hope we land Smith and then 2 other players that can help(Tier 2 type players.)

Great we are looking a a crap Guard.

you say you agree, but then go right back to wanting top free agents?!

Bethea, Dorsey, Boldin, Dawson, Cox, Carlos Rogers, Skuta, Brooks.....yes, we don't go after the top free agents, but the ones we sign provide quality help. That is what free agents are supposed to do, help or supplement, not be the main players.

the team is bad now because of poor drafting, not because we don't sign free agents.

donte whitner, Jonathan Goodwin, ........these are the 'value' free agents. On the back end, when they finally leave the 49ers, they don't leave a big cap hit.

Big name free agents cost more up front, AND at the back end.

yes I want improvement. I don't see improvement, if anything we took another step backwards by losing Boone. Oline was already our weakest spot and now its weaker.

He hasn't signed very many impact free agents that I can recall, Bethea may be one of the few.

oh crap looks like we have a bidding war. 3 teams in on Kap. Denver, jets and browns. 49ers want 2nd rd pick. Kap era might be over. 100% drafting QB if this happens. This means they like one of the QB. Goff or Wentz

hopefully we can get a first by playing those three teams against each other if not a second round pick would work just fine.

I could be wrong but I don't think Baalke actually signed many of the players you listed that were solid contributors, he has mostly failed at that.

I would say that is good news if they can get something for him, honestly I would be thrilled with a 2nd round pick.

you sign IMPACT free agents when your team is good. then these impact FA's get you from 'good' to the SB. Clearly, we are far from 'good', so why stock the highest priced guys now? You can't create a winning team from free agency, everyone says this but then want every free agent?!

you draft first and when the 'window opens', you go after those few missing pieces. Meanwhile, you KEEP your good cap situation in place. If you sign the top guys now, they will leave before you REALLY get a good team going. Then they leave you with a bigger cap hit.

Granted our CURRENT cap space is big and unusual, so already said it is ok to sign one. But otherwise not 'panicking' on free agency and IMO, keep to the better values. we've had good examples of 'better value', so it can be done.

i went back as far as 2012 to find these names. But ok, can't say it is 100% accurate.

point remains, there ARE "2nd tier" free agents that can help our team. these guys are signed after the first wave of signings, were better value is found.

we don't have a good enough team to go after the biggest names. that is why i'm ok avoiding the bigger names THIS off season.

Best FA signing of the past 10 years was easily Justin Smith so signing top tier talent even when you aren't good can help put the culture in place so you and I don't agree on that point. However I recognize this isn't the best FA class and they should be stupid but come on they haven't even done anything to make themselves competitive, so far they've gotten worse in the offseason.
