I am not sensative about the pick. I am cool with it. Just that when the pick was first made, it seemed like a head scratcher to me after they said they wanted quality players without the off field drama. Hyde made more sense in that respect to me. The part that made the most sense was in the press conference that Jackson said Hill fit the Bengals scheme much more so than Hyde would have coming from their respective college programs.

Like I said, I am cool with it, just hope the kid keeps his damn nose clean.

Just because Hyde was ranked ahead of Hill doesnt mean that he is better.... Hyde is slower! Hill hits those holes faster is just as physical and played in a Semi Pro SEC against future pro stars....I like that Hill kid and just as I said Burfict would be a star...Hill will be a star...Laugh now but buy his damn jersey later...

That's not true. Actually they both run the same 4.66 forty but Hyde has the better acceleration. The only discernible difference that I can figure out is the Hill had bigger hands (10 1/4) compare to Hyde's (9 1/2). This pick is going to be a replay of 2004 when we pass on Steve Jackson for Chris Perry.

Jeremy Hill

Competitiveness (1) Runs hard. Churns legs at end of runs and is a strong, competitive finisher. Seems to get stronger and more effective with more carries. Does a good job of staying in bounds during four-minute drill. Excellent ball security in college. Had 371 career touches with only one fumble (and never lost a fumble). Career fumble percentage (0.3) ranks 2nd among top-25 RB prospects we tracked.

Vision/Patience (3) Runs up heels of blockers and gets tripped up too easily at times. Tries to bounce too many inside runs to the outside. When he commits to working north-south, he shows good instincts navigating through traffic. Likely fits best in a power-run offense that will feature him as downhill between-the-tackles runner.

Agility/Acceleration (3) Slasher with good burst to-and-through hole. Has quick feet and shows ability to quickly weave in and out of small creases. Impressive short-area agility as an inside runner (jump cuts and lateral cuts). But the more space and bigger head-of-steam, the longer it takes to drop weight and change directions. On ice skates when attempting to turn corner as an outside runner. When working east/west he struggles to stick foot in turf and accelerate north/south. Lacks extra gear to pull away once he hits daylight. Also lacks elusiveness in space

Power/Balance (2) Downhill runner with very good size and body control. Runs with a wide base. Bounces and/or spins off a lot of tackles. Can be more consistent with pad-level, but frequently delivers punishment with initial contact and does a very good job of driving legs through contact. Must do a better job of running behind pads in order to maximize size/strength in short-yardage situations.

Passing Game (3) Not featured as pass-catcher. Lacks ideal experience and feel as a route runner. In limited views, looks natural catching on run and quickly transitioning up field. Not sudden enough to develop into a difference maker as a pass catcher but can be a reliable check-down option. In pass pro, shows above average instincts. Is willing and has size, strength and natural knee bend to anchor.

Carlos Hyde

Competitiveness (2) Tough, aggressive and physical runner. Almost always falls forward at end of runs. Gives good effort as a blocker in both run game and pass pro. Ball security is an area of strength. Keeps ball tight to frame when runs in space and covers up with both hands in traffic. Above average career fumble percentage (0.7 percent) and even better in 2013 (0.4 percent), when his only fumble/fumble lost came while attempting to churn out extra yards in the 4th quarter vs. Michigan.

Vision/Patience (2) Effective pick-and-slide runner who presses the line of scrimmage and is eager to get north-south, but doesn't run up heels of offensive linemen. Not a dancer but is patient setting up blocks. Has a very good natural feel for when/where creases will open. If crease opens immediately, he hits it without hesitation.

Agility/Acceleration (2) Quick feet and impressive body control and lateral agility for size (Arian Foster like). Gets in and out of creases quickly. Effective jump cut and spin move. Good initial burst off of cuts. Good top end speed for size. Gets from 0-60 mph quickly for a bigger back but won't make many defenders miss and lacks elite second-gear once he gets in space.

Power/Balance (1) Wide base runner with prototypical size and strength combo. Runs with good balance. Breaks a high percentage of attempted arm tackles. Rarely brought down by one defender. Only real knock here is that he fails to consistently drop pads before contact, which results in too many shots taken to body and a failure to fully maximize his run power. But still, he drives legs on contact and drags defenders for extra yards on majority of carries. Strong finisher. Frequently pushes the pile on short-yardage runs, as well.

Passing Game (3) Catches away from frame and in stride. Appears to have soft hands and flashes ability to adjust. Would like to see more urgency as route runner and when working back to QB on scramble drill. Not a homerun threat after catch but can be a reliable check-down option. Above average blocker. Is willing and has size/strength to develop. Will need to improve leverage and hand placement in order to better sustain.

The difference was in the style of offense played, and how the player fit into the system. Hue said exactly that after they drafted Hill.

They were rated 1-2 on their board in terms of RB positions, and they went with Hill due to the style of offense the Bengals player and LSU is similar in that style, vs the spread/read-option that OSU runs. Hyde got a great fit in SF.

Hyde might be slower barely, but Hyde has an underestimated burst through the holes. He is quicker and has better acceleration than Hill.

Oh wow..... A Buckeye fan supports a former Buckeye. I'm shocked.

Hyde would not have been a good pick for the Bengals.

Hill would not have been a good pick for the 49er's.

Both teams got it right because they took two backs that are very, very similar overall, and picked the one that fit their scheme the best.

Also, Hyde had some issues off the field as well. Maybe not quite as note-worthy as Hill, but none the less.

That's all there is to it.

I'm sure both will have very good careers.

Is bengalization a virus? maybe we can equip rookies with lysol.

A bacteria, I believe......the bengalizococcyx germ, or something like that.......there is no known antibiotic that can kill it......
