He's likely cost himself more long-term money by not signing last year. Not only would he have likely seen the entirety of his contract, as the Bengals often do, but he would have hit the market again at 28(IIRC) and had a few more peak seasons available to offer to another solid contract. Now, he'll likely sign a big-time 5 year deal, that he'll only see 3 years of money, then end up back on the market at 30-31+ and likely past his peak.

That all being said - glad he's back - he'll help Dax come along - he's been a perfect guy while away from the team communicating with guys, helping Dax - so, he's been a great leader still - and that also means there's more depth, and even more flexibility with the ability to move Dax around on defense - especially since CTB will likely be limited to start the season.
