something to be said for that idea.......but just as bad would be a long suspension and it's later proved many of them lied and/or they recant.The thing that hurts the league right now is that there hasn't been any resolution to the current cases (from a civil standpoint) and there are still complaints being filed. By suspending Watson for a whole year, the league basically buys themselves over a year of time to let all the complaints and ugly details emerge. If they go for 6 games and some new shit gets uncovered in the middle of September, they're forced to make a decision to either extend the suspension or stick to their guns and appear unsympathetic to the victims. It's a tough spot for the league so I think they make the easier choice which is to suspend him for a season.
I do think it can be considered an open ended suspension meaning more could be tacked on (at least some have said that's a possibility).
