The thing that hurts the league right now is that there hasn't been any resolution to the current cases (from a civil standpoint) and there are still complaints being filed. By suspending Watson for a whole year, the league basically buys themselves over a year of time to let all the complaints and ugly details emerge. If they go for 6 games and some new shit gets uncovered in the middle of September, they're forced to make a decision to either extend the suspension or stick to their guns and appear unsympathetic to the victims. It's a tough spot for the league so I think they make the easier choice which is to suspend him for a season.
something to be said for that idea.......but just as bad would be a long suspension and it's later proved many of them lied and/or they recant.

I do think it can be considered an open ended suspension meaning more could be tacked on (at least some have said that's a possibility).

Innocent people go to prison all the time. However, "usually" serial killers or rapists are not falsely accused as patterns become evidence. See a pattern here? 31 other starting QB's in the NFL without 24 civil suits for sexual assult filed against them. Matter of fact, don't think another QB in the NFL even has one. See the pattern?

I mean, even Big Ben is sitting back going "Damn, bro...24?"...

I think it would be a bad look to have suspended a guy that did nothing wrong (suspending disbelief here for a minute).... But I don't think the public would be outraged about a guy that was suspended but able to keep all the cash. Yeah, it would be a real shame for wasting a prime year in a talented guy's career, but so long as he is compensated, I don't see many people getting upset about it. On the other hand, if they let a guy play and every week there is a new NYPost or TMZ interview with a victim, it will get ugly for the league's PR office.

wouldn't call it a pattern but what I see is there are a great deal like you that believe anything that may suit your agenda. And, yes, there are some who see it 100% the other way and think he did nothing wrong.

I'm taking the nutty approach that I don't know exactly what happened but when a story is so unbelievable I'll choose not to believe it. Unless it was reported incorrectly, # 24 is not believable to me.

I mean, an attorney makes it public, "if you ever performed a massage for Desean Watson and he did anything inappropriate please call me...there might be a substantial payday for you." Not hard to believe a large amount of people might see if they could get rich.

no disagreement there. It's a tough situation for the NFL. While they should stick to facts only it's a business and public opinion/PR will matter.

The 24 "victims" is the big thing here and that's why Buzbee brought in that many plaintiffs bc if he brings a couple, this is likely nothing and a short suspension. Big Ben got 6 games for alleged r*pe and he paid the victim outside of court, it's only one girl but the act is worse. Now with social media at an all-time high and people outraged, it definitely could be a longer suspension than 6 games even if it shouldn't be more games. I said 4-10, gonna still with that. Ben got 6 but with there being more "victims" I could definitely see 8-10. I still don't believe they will suspend him for one year but we will see

I just think it's ridiculous this is taking so long.

The New York Times is running an extensive story this morning that also points the finger at the Texans for facilitating the behavior. This article will do some serious damage to Watson - Particularly if his version of the 'number' of massages that were booked is not near the 66 reported by the Times.

Reports also indicate that he was playing Pat Benatar's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" during some of the massages......

Makes sense, but hard not to think the Browns are just trying to save face here

He wasn't coming to camp regardless.
OK, once again, how was it trying to save face. The word from the Browns wasn't even they excused him but they said both parties mutually agreed.

It's an early June camp. Nonstory.
