So far? No doubt it has. It's rather clear the Watson trade thus far is an unmitigated disaster.

That's interesting, because every single media source says they did excuse him. Verbatim. Was there an official statement released? As far as I can tell, "sources" were cited by some insiders, and then Stefanski answered a direct question yesterday about him being excused saying it was a decision made in the best interest of both parties. Which confirms it.OK, once again, how was it trying to save face. The word from the Browns wasn't even they excused him but they said both parties mutually agreed.
It's an early June camp. Nonstory.
The reality is - Baker wasn't showing up. Period. So, rather than have to go through the rigmarole with the media - they just "excused" him. That's interesting, because every single media source says they did excuse him. Verbatim. We're just a few days removed from Stefanski being noncommittal & refusing to make statements about Mayfield attending mandatory camps after OTAs concluded. Even though OTAs were voluntary it seems to me like the Browns were holding out hope that Baker would change his stance. He didn't, and now they want to make us all believe they mutually agreed to excuse him. ie Saving face.
Baker has made it well known he wants traded or released, right? "Relationship is too far gone" ... "I feel disrespected 100%"... blah blah blah
Point is... Baker is refusing to take part in his contractual obligations to the team. The team & his agent coming to an agreement to dismiss him from those obligations and then the team wrapping it up and presenting it as mutual & that they 'excused' him is farcical.
Yep... I'm surprised that I had to spell it out. I can understand some part of it though, as being a fan of the team makes us read between lines more. But sometimes the mental gymnastics we do just don't add up. I know I'm guilty of this too lolThe reality is - Baker wasn't showing up. Period. 0.0% chance he was every going to actually show up. Browns made their bed with Watson, and now they have to hope they are the ones who will end up with a happy ending....I'd bet quite a bit of money that Baker never takes another snap for that franchise again.
Yeah - we've all been there.Yep... I'm surprised that I had to spell it out. I can understand some part of it though, as being a fan of the team makes us read between lines more. But sometimes the mental gymnastics we do just don't add up. I know I'm guilty of this too lol
Yep we tend to dehumanize players a lot for the sake of "business" or fan ideology. But that relationship was severed in a way that wasn't mutual at all. And no amount of PR work is going to cover that up. Yes it was a business decision, but the fallout comes with that. Not saying it was right or wrong. But it doesn't take much effort to surmise an opinion here.Yeah - we've all been there.
But, the way the Browns went about acquiring Watson left no room for any kind of real reconciliation between Baker and the Browns. I mean, it's like having a girlfriend, but deciding to take a shot at the really hot girl down the street - and not even being shy about it - telling everyone you're going to go get her....regardless of the outcome, your current girlfriend isn't hangin' around...LOL
The Browns totally fucked up the situation. They should have never let stuff leak to Mortenson about "wanting and adult to qb the Browns." If they weren't the source of the shit-talking they should have gotten out in front of it.... When they acquired Watson they should have continued to play Mayfield up rather than freezing him out. I don't know - Maybe they did.... It just seemed to me that they were done from Mayfield and moving on. And that made other teams less interested.Yeah - we've all been there.

Yep all gonna depend on the suspension. It's rather clear the Watson trade thus far is an unmitigated disaster.
He likes that weird stuff. I think OBJ and him would get along just finePhysical Therapist Says Deshaun Watson Got Into 'Happy Baby Yoga Pose' & Demanded Massage Between His Testicles & Anus

Nope he will never take another snap, known that for awhile. Baker holds grudgesThe reality is - Baker wasn't showing up. Period. So, rather than have to go through the rigmarole with the media - they just "excused" him.

It was all-in for Watson once they started pursuing him and the FO knew it but they felt it was worth the risk bc of what Baker was giving them. I don't blame them at all. The Browns could compete with Bake but they needed a perfect scenario to make a SB run. Even if Watson is out for a full year they got the QB for their future and franchise QB. The scenario wasn't perfect but fuck it man.Yeah - we've all been there.

I didn't read or see all the coverage, but from what I recall it appeared that they blindsided Baker with that decision. When the season ended they showed Baker all sorts of indications that he was their future plan. But then when FA started and certain QBs became available the Browns FO changed their tune. The Browns totally fucked up the situation. Who knows but from Baker's side he was blindsided. I've heard multiple reports that the FO told him they were exploring other options in FA, I'm sure he didn't like that.I didn't read or see all the coverage, but from what I recall it appeared that they blindsided Baker with that decision. Certainly a difference between giving the man a heads up as to what their plans would be vs telling him at the time they were exploring other options. It's a bold move to tell the man he's your guy and then turn around & tell him you don't want him to be the guy because there are better options lol.Who knows but from Baker's side he was blindsided. Yeah telling him he is the guy was a mistake, just don't say anything but it's not the first time I've seen it.Certainly a difference between giving the man a heads up as to what their plans would be vs telling him at the time they were exploring other options. You did it to all of us!I keep scrollin through this conversation and keep seein the damn picture of Deshaun Watson doin the happy baby yoga pose and it makes me burst out laughing every time
As you said in an earlier post, can't fault them for making the decision though. It's not good business to ignore making big moves to improve your team. Its one of those unfortunate aspects of the business side of things. And Baker knows this & understands it. Its his lack of maturity showing when he speaks out against it talkin about disrespect & how the relationship is gone.Yeah telling him he is the guy was a mistake, just don't say anything but it's not the first time I've seen it.
