Simply put, you don't make a four year old bleed by beating them with a tree branch. That is child abuse!

Every generation seems to think that about the following generations. Go to YouTube and you can find someone being interviewed since the invention of the camera saying that.

I'd argue if anything this generation is too passive and conformist. Boring. But not more threatening, disrespectful or criminal.

Modern young men have less testosterone than previous generations.

Never bleed. Bruise yes. That's what instills the fear. If it doesn't hurt then why not just keep acting out?

On the flip side, I rarely received spankings, and was never beaten in any way whatsoever. My dad spanked me a few times, and they never hurt that badly, certainly never left marks. Yet, I wound up with lot more discipline and respectful of my parents than many other kids I knew, and there are plenty of examples of kids who get smacked up for acting out who still turn into problem children. My parents, including my old man, much more often turned to explaining why what I did was wrong, how they were disappointed in me for it, and letting me wallow in and think about my mistakes to where I would feel bad about them for logical moral reasons and own up to them

There is no sugar coating it, this is really bad news for the Vikings. My condolences.

Agreed... if this story is as bad as it sounds... I mean, AP supposedly stuck leaves in the kid's mouth... that is sickening. If this is all truly as bad as it is sounding, I will be the first to say let the Vikings cut him.

His personal defenders seemed to disappear pretty quick as evidence emerged. I was impressed here.

That makes sense, but you have to consider this. After about age 7 when I began to fully understand my dad was the boss I never once in my lifetime ever said no to him. If he would have said rob the bank I'd have done it (hyperbole). I never broke a single solitary rule, I did exactly as he said until the day I moved out. I was never disciplined with corporal punishment after I was 7 because I was in absolute obedience.

When I was 18+ and still living with my parents I knew if I acted out one bit I was kicked out.

I think it's wrong for a kid that young. Man if your butt is 13 and you do something stupid, I think ya got it coming.

But FOUR!? Jeez.... what can you do at 4 that could warrant that?

no. honestly I came on here to find out what it actually was that he had done. My comments started over the belt is a weapon comments, then have simply been talking about spankings in general.

A 4 year old doesn't have to be spanked all that hard at all to get the point across. In fact you could probably spank a 4 year old with about a zero pain factor & freak them out enough to straighten them up.

Yeah. I feel bad for their fans.

After watching our awful NBA team forced to trade away our latest disgruntled Superstar, this news about Peterson is surreal. It's like your wife just told you she was filing for divorce, then you went into work and they said they were making cuts and they were letting you go as a result. I mean, not literally obviously, but figuratively.

Man it's always something with the Vikings...but I agree. Never thought I'd see the day I'd say that about Adrian Peterson. I'm going to let this play out but it's not sounding good.

The Cowboys wanted to trade for Peterson earlier this year.

Once again, its a difference when you do it and when you do it to far. Stop getting the two mixed up.

I'm not mixed up about anything. It's not ok to hit a child, ever. We need to take a long, hard look at our society that we allow it.
