Bullshit.

It's true. Violent crime over the past two decades has reduced dramatically and especially the crime rate of juveniles. I know it doesn't fit the 'these kids these days' narrative but the numbers show it. In fact, even compared to Gen Xers. Sociologist think the primary factor in it was easily accessible birth control and thus less unplanned pregnancies. Essentially, more kids were born to parents that wanted and had planned on having kids

Isn't Rusty Hardin that creep that defended Roger Clemens? :L

Yeah, I can sense Costas and Olbermann's righteous indignation mounting by the second. How long before they issue an ultimatum for someone's head to roll? :rolleyes2:

Well, the kid was dumb enough to pick a thin one. He'll learn to pick thicker ones as he gets older.

And get as close as you can, if you can catch it up near the hand it bounces a lot.

My dad spanked my brothers and I with a leather belt and we all were the better for it. We appreciate the lessons we learned for our rowdy behavior.

I'm sure all of us as kids from a generation or two prior took the business end of the belt once or 50 times....whichever came first. I believe in that approach, but I can also say that no blood was spilled.

At least he was in this kids life to discipline him. I remember having a thick leather strap taken to my ass on more than one occasion and as much as it hurt I learned boundaries and consequences quickly.

Lucky for you ... that's what my dad used to use on me, also ... until he found out that a thinner belt hurt more. No shit ... thinner belt is WAY worse.

I don't trust stats. I trust my own life experience and it tells me that today's world is not well behave at all. It was much safer when I was a lad and that has been a while.

You know what's going on so much these days? People on the lower end of the power structure just want more power by taking it away from those who have it.

Absent that Peterson's son was medically injured that's HIS son and it's his business.

There is a huge difference between spanking a 10 year old and a 4 year old.

I like how the media keep saying a switch is a tree branch!

I always understood it barely registered as a stick LOL

Like he is using a 2x4 or something.

Juvenile Arrest Rate Trends

Since 1996, there has been a 48% drop in the juvenile arrest rate and a 32% drop since 1980.

Spanking a 4 year old sends a message. I've been spanked so I would know. It's a message from father to son that goes like "Don't fuck with me". In a nutshell, it shows the kid who's in charge and if you act out of line you deal with me.

I never once told me dad "No". Never because there was fear.

Our awareness of the evil of the world is far greater today that it was when we were kids.

Good point. Maybe the reason the stats are down are because parents like me refuse to let my kids go anywhere unsupervised anymore. I won't let my 10 and 12 year old girls even go across the street to the park/playground without me because teenagers have caused trouble with them in the past. Don't let your kids out = no opportunity for bigger/older kids to cause fights or violence or steal their shit = lower crime stats = safer society?

You got a point there, but still think it's more dangerous in today's world.

Well ya, that's the point. Who should be in charge, the 4 year old?

My 7 year grand daughter isn't allowed to play in the front yard unless a adult is with her. So much different then when I was a child.
