I don't think either gets in.
I can see Grienke but he’s far from a lock.
And yeah I agree on McCuthen. At his current decline I don’t see how he has any shot. Still has time if he somehow gets good again.

I assume this was in response to me...Grienke a lock?
McCutchen basically?
I assume this was in response to me...
Greinke has a CY and 2 other top 5 finishes. He led the league in ERA twice, WHIP twice and FIP once. He is likely to end his career with north of 200 wins. He has had a sub 4.00 ERA 11 times (plus ‘12 when he only had 89 IP and this year so far) and a sub 3.00 ERA 4 times. He also has been considered one of the top 3 or 4 pitchers going in the game for most of his career.
I am not sure there is much debate with Greinke.
McCutchen was one of the absolute beasts of the game from ‘12 to ‘15, winning one MVP and finishing 3rd, 3rd and 5th the other years. He has only had an OPS+ under 120 once. Even this year, which he has appeared to struggle, he has put up a 120 OPS+ while leading the NL in doubles.
Cutch needs more time. He isn’t in yet. But he isn’t that far off.
Fair comparison between Greinke and Verlander. JV actually has 20 more career wins, and has been to the Series three times (with one ring, although never looking good in his appearances) while Greinke has never been.Grienke to me can’t be a lock over a guy like Verlander. I just don’t think Greinke is a lock. Not saying him getting in is a bad call.
McCuthen still has a lot of work to do. Might as well let Mauer in then. Mauer at least did what no player at his position could do while at his peak.
Cutch can get in he’s still only 31...but let’s see where he finishes. He’s definitely got work to do.
Good call on Sale. Still early, but he was top 5 in CY voting the last 5 years and was #6 the year before and look s like he may continue that string this year.If Utley is borderline is Cano as well?
I also think Votto has a chance.
Some that I think have a chance with more time are
Hamels and Sale

Hard for a SP to get in without at least 1 CY, but who would be surprised if Sale gets one eventuallly?
Hard for a bubble guy to get in with an official knock against him.I think Cano ruined his chances this year. He can join the rest of the juicers on the outside looking in.
Disagree with Altuve being in the conversation now. He needs to put some miles on him with consistent numbers. He has really only played 7 real seasonsCasual fans would go 'huh' if you mentioned Beltre, who has become one of the best ballplayers nobody ever talks about.
Pujols is in.
Verlander, most likely.
Trout isn't ready for the conversation.
Altuve might be ready for the conversation.
Miggy is in the day he is eligible.
Will he last? Small dudes don’t tend to have long careers.Disagree with Altuve being in the conversation now. He needs a to put some miles on him with consistent numbers. He has really only played 7 real seasons
Understand you point. However, as much as they will never admit it, the writers are holding a grudge against Clemens and Bonds for the way they treated the media as much as what they did.Hard for a bubble guy to get in with an official knock against him.
Bonds and Clemens have no official knocks, and it wasn’t even illegal, when they allegedly did it anyway, and they are not in. No way can a bbble-boy get in with a positive test when it was officially against the rules.
Very interesting question. I certainly hope so. I really like the guy and how he plays the game so it would be great to see but obviously your question leans to the fact we have seen this happen to players in the past. Will he last? Small dudes don’t tend to have long careers.
I think he might be ready for the conversation, not that he is in it. That is sort of an important difference, agreed?Disagree with Altuve being in the conversation now. He needs to put some miles on him with consistent numbers. He has really only played 7 real seasons

I am okay with that however.

Cano was a virtual lock before the PED deal. I'd still put him in.
He's gotta wait for Bonds and Clemens ... they both appear to be assholes, but the stats are too overwhelming. Bonds had to hit against pitchers using PEDs and Clemens had to pitch against batters using PEDs. What I'm saying is if they were using (and they were) many MANY other were.
"Sweet" Lou for the Hall as well!!!
