No i'm not, no player has benefited more by rule changes than Brees, if his career started in the 80's you wouldn't know his name.
Dude's been playing since 2001. One of the smartest, most accurate, efficient passers of all-time.

I can only think of 1 QB from that 80's that was also 6-0. He was 6-2 in the playoffs, won a S.B. & finsihed 30 games above .500 (77-47) before an injury ended his career. And Brees is much better.

Even if Brees played in the 80's he's too talented of a QB not have had some success back then in my opinion.

No player's benefited more than Brees? Tom Brady would disagree since in todays NFL if you hit a QB too hard or in the wrong place it's a penalty. If a defensive player looks @ Tommy Boy (fuck meeeechegan!) the wrong way it's a penatly.:heh:

Rule changes happened in 2004, what was Brees' first really good year?
Here are the NFL rule changes in 2004:

Instant replay was extended for five years and adjusted to give teams an extra challenge if both previous challenges were successful.

"Flamboyant" celebrations will be penalized automatically for 15 yards.

Wide receivers allowed to wear numbers 11-19 for the increased amount of retired numbers, as well as more players at wide receiver and tight end (who also wear numbers in the 80s) coming into the league.

Which one of these vaulted Brees into the elite QB he's become, exactly?

Brees was an average QB at best and one the Chargers didn't care about keeping before the rule changes, Brady was already winning Super Bowls and leading the league in TD passes before the rule changes.

Instead they wound up with a really good QB who benefited from the same rules that Brees has been playing under, yet hasn't been as good. Weird how NFL trades work out sometimes.

You might remember the Colts vs Pats AFC Championship game from 2003 and the cries that came after it leading to rules about illegal contact and pass interference penalties finally being enforced. Being you didn't know this maybe you should stick to conversations you know something about. :suds:

Brees, Rogers and Brady will all have the same sized bust in the HOF as Johnny U. The rest of this is just opinion.

Those weren't rule changes. They were rules already on the books but not being enforced. Perhaps you should stick to conversations you know something about.

So, none of the rule changes you speak of were enacted in 2004, I see. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Cite your work or just admit you're wrong.

What part of me saying finally being enforced did you have issue with?

I'm like 98% sure he's just bullshitting, but I've got time to kill before I head out for the day.

There were no major rule 'changes' for the 2004 season, but there is no question that rule enforcements greatly altered the passing game going into that season. Not debatable.

As for Rodgers....he's the best QB in the game today, and has been since he established himself as the generational talent he is. Greatest ever? I haven't seen a guy on Joe Montana's level yet, but Rodgers may be the closest since #16 retired. The only other guy I would say comes as close is Dan Marino.

Neither QB threw for 4,000 yards in a season before the changes in '04. And Brady had better talent around him in NE than Brees had in SD.

What about your comment that if Brees played in the 80's nobody would have heard of him? Not many examples of successful 6 foot QB's but was able to think of one.

The problem with these debates is I think we are confusing greatness with accomplished. Meaning, Tom Brady is by far the most accomplished quarterback to ever play the game. Whereas greatness I put into the more talent, physical abilities, athletic type category. Hell with a guy like Peyton we could even add a thing category of intelligient. No one was ever going to accuse Peyton of being Athletic, but he was damn sure the smartest qb I've ever seen play the game. Best case scenario, you make a top 5 off all three categories and see who shows up the most on the three.
