3 outta 4 from KC before the all star break. Not bad Tigers. Now the AL has to win the AS game so that Detroit can have home field advantage in the WS. Go Tigers

Go Tigers

I said on Thursday that a 2-2 series split in their ballpark and remaining 4.5 up in the standings would be just fine with me. 3-1 is a bonus, adding a couple games to the lead.

Biggest concerns for the second half are the bullpen (which was a concern in spring training) and Verlander. Some people are whining about the hitting, but the Tigers are first in BA, third in runs (despite playing the fewest games in the AL), first in OPS and second in OBP. Their BA with RISP is .283, vs. a league average of .253. They could maybe use one productive LH bat, but otherwise the hitting is fine.

wimpy infield hits stop the sweep.

AL AL cant do the job.maybe if the bull pen could ever help verlander out...he would have 12 or 13 wins. AL AL served up a meat ball to that meathead Hosmer.

oh well KC still 6 1/2 back...and they know there place in the Central.

You have nothing we would want first of all...

You realize we have plenty of prospects with the tools to replace holes, right? We aren't the A's with a pitiable farm...

And a Detroit fan is talking smack about rebuilds? Scherzer and Vmart are going to get paid... Have fun with the Verlander extension though.

This isn't just Doug talking, I heard it from some baseball broadcasters, too ... that in a matter of a month, the Royals may have gone from buyers to sellers at the deadline. I'm thinking they still have a shot. They'll have to get hot like they did last year after the break, and hope the Tigers don't do the same. I'm certainly not all-cozy with a 6.5 game lead in mid-July.

No offense Moose, but the Royals ALWAYS have plenty of prospects. (The Tigers have two rookie starting infielders, a "rookie" backup catcher, the pitcher who got the W in the futures game, two starters 25 or younger, another waiting to join the rotation and a handful of prospects. An awful bullpen and then a team of major league caliber players.)

I think they see a WC spot more than the division at this point. No reason at all to sell when they are 2.5 games behind a playoff spot. They didn't sell last year when the team had much less talent and a pitcher (Santana) who wasn't going to resign. If anything, they will do nothing regardless of how bad they are.

While it is a nice thought, it isn't very likely KC sells given Dayton Moore's stubbornness and the proximity to a playoff spot.

Did! He's not going to again though. Can't get nostalgic with a no power DH. It might not make sense for me, a lifelong Tigers fan, to be bothered by it so much, but it does. I want the Central as a whole to be better is all.

I have a feeling you hated sean casey.

You should re-phrase that and say Detroit doesn't have anything KC could afford to take on in trade.

About the only guy KC would want and could afford to make a deal for is Castellanos (Payroll wise) and Detroit isn't trading him.

Castellanos is nice but redundant. They have another 3B prospect in the top 40 prospects who is probably on the team at some point next year.

My comment was more geared towards the Tigers farm system anyways.

I think the royals should be buyers if they find the right trade. They have a solid rotation a great pen, and speed. They just need one to two guys in the lineup that are capable of hitting 15 home runs in the second half.

Wade Davis for JD Martinez could be mutually beneficial. (I honestly hope you're buyers not sellers.)

wow, that wouldn't be that bad...Davis (and his 5 mil) or Crow or Herrera but you just know Det/KC trade will not happen.

Yeah, there's no way they trade with each other this season. Too much of chance for it to come back and bite you. (Even though we don't face off again until September I believe.). But I think there are a couple options of trades that could help both teams THIS season.
