No Miggy effect leading off the inning. Just one helluva great pickup by DD

Did JD go deep?

They aren't airing the game til 10. CBS is worthless at updating. If so -- way to be JD!!!

I do agree, when Miggy gets on base, it helps these guys out tremendously. VMart has hit the majority of his homeruns without Cabrera on base though. I am pretty shocked at the amount of homeruns he has hit though.

JD Martinez -- they said he overhauled his swing in the winter. He absolutely torched Triple A when we picked him up off waivers, hitting 10 homeruns in 17 games. He struggled when he was first brought up, but since he got hot, which seems like the last couple months now -- he has hit wherever they had him in the lineup.

I keep waiting for the bottom to fall out on JD, but his swing reminds me of Cabrera's (NO I am not saying he is anywhere in the same realm as Cabrera LOL) -- It is just the fact he hits the ball to all fields and has power to all fields. That is what surprised me about him the most.

I hope Detroit found lightning in a bottle with him. If he can put up numbers remotely near to what he has been, he lengthens our lineup, which is exactly what Detroit has needed. I'm not going to hold my breathe though.

Miggy doesn't even have to get on base, they pitch him junk, if he swings he swings. Then they turn around and throw more strikes to the guys behind him. Great hitters always give batters around him advantages...its done it in the history of the game.

Thats what guys that can hit strikes are put behind the best hitters. Have to say even Infante is hitting better once they put him behind Perez, I know lesser numbers but the increase in numbers is about the same, Infante all of a sudden seems almost worth it now.

Heck Hunter even got 2 hits tonight in the 2 spot behind Miggy...Miggy has kept Hunter in the game a few more years, in front or behind him.

JD doesn't go all of a sudden to All Star numbers from crap because of just an adjustment to his swing, he would still be struggling in the Royals lineup.

Smitty, I get the hate for butler, I do. Guy clogs up the base paths, cant play a position, and doesnt hit for power, and now doesnt hit period. Hes a waste of a roster spot currently. I would hate it if the tigers had to deal with that. That being said, he did have some pretty ridiculous years with the bat.

Did! He's not going to again though. Can't get nostalgic with a no power DH. It might not make sense for me, a lifelong Tigers fan, to be bothered by it so much, but it does. I want the Central as a whole to be better is all.

Tigers fact-- they have just beaten the ever livin tar out of all the 1st place teams they've played, plus the closest pursuer in the Central.. like this--->

Baltimore--> 5-1
Oakland --> 5-2
Kansas City->9-3
LA Dodgers->3-1
_______________
22-7 TOTAL

EVERYONE ELSE
________________
31-30 TOTAL

Most good teams sweep up against the non contenders, and play about 50/50 against the contenders.. not the Tigers, they don't seem to follow the script very well for some reason.

Vice posted on the Tigers Board yesterday man. Posts there all the time. Not as much lately, but regularly at the beginning of the season. Once the bullpen PROVED it was shitty as shit can be he vanished for a month. Like a bitch.

LOL... seriously... this was funny. I like how you formulate as to why someone would not want to post here... Maybe its because 99% of what is talked about here is drivel. I post when I have time.. which I have little of and when I see a topic that catches my eye if I am lucky enough to catch it... nothing more... nothing less.

I already said -- I agree, the guys in front of Miggy most definitely benefit from having Miggy hit behind them. They do not want to walk a batter and put runners on base with Cabrera coming up.

I also agree -- it helps the hitters behind Miggy when he DOES get on base. If he doesn't get on base -- why would a pitcher just start throwing fastballs down the middle to the guy behind him? That wouldn't make any sense.

Also -- if you look at the power numbers for VMart and Martinez -- they have hit 34 home runs between the two of them and 21 are solo home runs.

And with JD Martinez -- he is hitting a very respectable .298 with Runners on Base, but his BA with the bases empty is thru the roof at .379.

It seems if those numbers would be flip flopped, as pitchers don't have to just throw strikes if Miggy doesn't get on or those hitters are leading off innings.

Now Torii Hunter and Ian Kinsler most definitely get more pitches because of Cabrera. I also think that is why Ausmus put AJax leading off, because he knew he'd get more pitches to hit and hopefully break out of his slump. Hunter has had 3 years in a row now with monsters hitting behind him and his average shows you how much it has helped him out (he was between Trout and Pujols before the Tigers).
