Usually you want to hit IN FRONT of miggy...you would think teams wouldnt pitch to vmart with no proven number 5 hitter....but JD is giving him protection now.

Ok, so last year Hunter got the Miggy advantage, great point, Infante the year before?

No, Infante only played in DET for the last two months of 2012 (came over in the Anibal trade), and I don't think he hit in front of Miggy much, if at all, in that season.

And Maris had 61 homers in his big year, not 62.

Hitting IN FRONT of miggy usually means you are going to get a good fastball...dont want to walk anyone in front of him....i was worried vmart would get pitched around this yr because i thought our 5-9 hitters were worse this yr. and vmarts crushing it and miggy isnt even having a miggy season by his standards. But he is warming up.

Hitting after the best hitter in baseball has its advantages as well. More RBI opportunities, the pitcher having to throw strikes make good pitches with miggy on base. Regarding Vmart, he has played in some pretty good lineups before det. If you ask me hes just on a tear and will cool down power wise. Hes a great doubles hitter that hits for average and is having the best year of his career. It happens, its a statistical outlier that tigs fans can enjoy. While miggy may help a little bit, vmart has been in det a while now with miggy and only started really producing second half of 2013. So if you put vmart on the royals, cards, braves..whereever he would still be putting up power numbers.

In all fairness, he was ages 35-40 in his LA/HOU years, so I generally would expect declined production from when he was ages 29-34.

There are plenty on here you could have a good debate/argument with (yourself, broncosmitty, navamind, etc), but with cleaves, if you don't agree with him, you're a stat nerd who never played the game and/or someone on the Tigers must've banged your mom.

ANYTIME ive EVER talked to stan has been in here....in the SMACK talk room....now you have to know every new nerd stat to come into this room.......just look at stan and nava....everytime they post, its using some stat to prove why such and such isnt good.....and its usually a tiger....jess sayin....

The Central has been the worst division in the majors over 4-5 years. Every team has strengths and weaknesses. If you can't accept the Tigers weaknesses, then yes stay on the Tigers board where its ok to say their weaknesses, as long as your a Tigers fan. Other fans, better not mention them though.

The Central was a decent division last year. If Cleveland could ever pull their crap together this division wouldn't look so meh superficially. KC and Det appear to be bi-polar.

Might of been the worst division in your eyes....funny we beat the yankees, the A's a few times in the playoffs tho....3 straight ALCS....not bad for winning the D division in softball.....wonder how that made the yanks and A's feel...

Yeah tigers got weaknesses....i agree....have stated it a million times.....bullpen....i used to think a clear number 5 hitter...but JD is hot....ive already said we got 5 mediocre OF's.....the bullpen again.....SS was a concern....im happy so far with suarez....did i mention bullpen....hell i predicted vmart would hit between 10-15 HR's and miggy would be walked a ton and vmart would set a record for DP's.
