I looked at that matchup earlier and thought 'yep, Tigers have a pretty serviceable guy in Porcello'. Takes a bit of the sting out of dealing Fister away, no?

Fister and Porcello were both there at the same time, Smyly was Fister's replacement. That was a really good pitching performance either way though.

Uh oh. Not the Fister can o worms..... (I may be the only person in the world that's fine with Ray and Krol along with Smyly and his approaching 3.00 ERA.). I've always been big on Ricky P. love that curve!

Trades go good and trades go bad... GM's hit and miss. Kinsler for Prince looks awesome now.

Fister stings of course. IMO ... Robbie Ray goes and becomes sevicable starter and Krol sticks in BP awhile doesn't sting as bad. Hindsight on paper bad deal. Future still holds answer on this deal.

Thing was Nats and Tigers seemed they were going to trade somehow someway... Max, Ricky or Fister.

I was most upset at smyly leaving the pen and losing one of our better RP. If this team can get that pen fixed....we will be fine. Shutout had to help the tigers team ERA.

Fister should have got 1 of washingtons top MR guys, then it would have made sense, they got almost their worst MR. They just settled for any MR.

If Detroit was trading for the "future" with the chance they have to win now should be a crime.

wow agree, the fister trade actually hurt the bullpen taking Smyly out of it.

Looks like they're winning pretty well now to me. Ray could/would be that long relief guy if the franchise was actually pressed. That Lombardozzi throw away deal though, that ones still annoys the shit outta me. Mostly because Romine is worthless. (Alverez was basically thrown away for him, that doesn't really bother me though.).

lol, the Tigers have had Kelly and Santiago as back ups, Romine fits in. I agree getting rid of Lombardozzi was a bad move, at least he can hit his weight. Speaking of, Tigers probably should have kept Pena too. Still could have got more out of Fister though, guess they didn't want to trade him to the Royals, lol.

Bryan or Carlos? I wish we still had Gerry Laird myself. It's not so bad settling for Ausmus a third time though.

Yep, we got rid of Alvarez and Lombardozzi for Romine and two weeks of Alex Gonzalez. Bad deals, but none of the four are really worth a shit. Alvarez and Lombardozzi are both in AAA right now. Romine is far superior as a defensive SS compared to Lombo, who is really more of a 2B.

Im just annoyed they threw away an upgrade over Santiago. That's all he had to be. I didn't plan on seeing him at short much. More so at second and third, since I planned on Nicky C being slightly worse than he has been in the field. It won't matter in the long run, as I assume Iggy will fill the reserve infield role next season(Suarez has a better arm and doesn't have a brutal uppercut with no power). The thing that stinks about Lombo for Gonzalez this year.... how can they DFA Kelly with no other option at third and a rookie who shouldn't play in clutch situations is the starter? I dont think they can do it. Miggy at third, VMart at first and Torii at DH when/if Nick gets hurt/hits a rough patch? First world problems.....

Just dropped 30 on Vargas as he tries to keep the Tigers firmly entrenched for second best record in the AL.

Agreed ... though Romine had played more 3B than SS coming into this season. From a defensive standpoint, he can back up both Casty and Suarez. Can't hit to save his life, though.

wow, you were talking the Royals are 5th in batting average in all of MLB not just AL..wouldn't have guessed that at all. Detroit 2nd...lol, yeah, the tigers would still be hitting better than the Royals without Miggy, sure, another good one.

Bums I started looking at this other day when you posted. I had post going showing Tigers were still just a touch ahead of Royals taking Miggy out. I stopped when I realized that someone would be in his spot and be contributing something to stats. So yes, they would still be better w/out Miggy in stats.

My true meaning for this post was the cherry picking comment I made the other day. I noticed the
5th in AVG. and Tigers 2nd.... what else I noticed last night was the other stats you guys bring up. I still don't use those. OPS+ and WAR +- shit... So my question is

Is there another stat that does not make these other gaps look as bad?? Seriously trying to see if stats paint 2 pictures or not?

Royals ranked as of last night in MLB
AVG. .260 7th
OBP. .312 20th
SLG. .371 24th
OPS. .684 24th

Tigers
AVG. .277 2nd
OBP. .330 5th
SLG. .443 2nd
OPS. .773 2nd

When it comes to hitting stats or basic offensive categories there is 2 the Royals are up in SB and SO...

Now pitching is the different story that sways in Royals direction at this time and why the Royals are still in the race.

Have you heard of the, for the lack of a better term, "great hitter effect"...Jeff Kent made a killing hitting next to Bond for example, Roger Maris hit 62 homers behind Mickey Mantle...look at Infante's average now compared to when he was hitting in front of Miggy.

When you have such an intimidating hitter like Miggy, it affects how pitchers pitch. They don't want to walk the guys in front of him, so they throw more strikes. They try and give Miggy crap pitches, if they walk him so be it. Then they have to throw more strikes to the guys behind him.

V Mart wouldn't sniff 19 hrs batting behind Hosmer.

Again, You take Miggy out of the Tigers lineup and they are pretty average, you swap Hosmer and Miggy and the Royals lineup is much better than the tigers and Butler is in double digit HR area. Ted Williams had the same effect.

Butler may never hit double digit homers again. Wouldn't matter if Cobb and Bonds were in front of, with Gehrig, Ruth and Williams behind.

When did infante hit in front of miggy? Tori hunter batted 2nd last yr....and what does hitting AFTER someone have to do with their power numbers? Usually you want to hit IN FRONT of miggy...you would think teams wouldnt pitch to vmart with no proven number 5 hitter....but JD is giving him protection now.

Hitting IN FRONT of miggy usually means you are going to get a good fastball...dont want to walk anyone in front of him....i was worried vmart would get pitched around this yr because i thought our 5-9 hitters were worse this yr. and vmarts crushing it and miggy isnt even having a miggy season by his standards. But he is warming up.
