agree, I thought Detroit would have their best season in the last 5 years this year...

I didn't. At the start of the season, I projected the Tigers to be a little worse than last season. Was thinking about 90 wins. Primarily because of a worse bullpen, loss of Fister coupled with Smyly's unpredictability as a starter, injuries to Iglesias and Rondon, and lack of power behind Cabrera.

Victor Martinez has put any lineup protection questions to rest. But the bullpen is even worse than I thought (Nathan was the LEAST of my worries), and Smyly isn't close to our worst problem at SP.

Adjusting downward to about 86-88 wins for the Tigers. Might still be enough, we'll see.

Coors is a fair point, though even if he hit elsewhere, he'd still be among the best offensive shortstops in the league (career .274/.348/.471 hitter on road). And combine that with his defense and he's still a top 3 shortstop.

But who knows what kind of numbers he'd put up outside of Coors? Larry Walker was still a very good hitter after he got traded to the Cards by the Rockies. Batted .286/.387/.520 (134 OPS+) in 144 games with the Cards before retiring. And Walker's home/away splits are huge (though his .865 OPS on the road is still quite good). Walker was becoming a great hitter before he went to Colorado too (he had a 128 OPS+ as an Expo, 151 in his last year with the Expos (granted it was a strike-shortened year).

Oh i dont disagree...tulo IS the BEST SS right now in my eyes.....just dont think hes the best hitter on the planet.....i also think with his defense, he is one of the top players in baseball when healthy....he was my first round pick in draft..

Troy

Home .477 1.422 OPS
Away .252 .820
Overall .356 1.098
18 HR 45 RBI

Miggy

Home .307 .903 OPS
Away .331 .933
Overall .318 .916
12 HR 56 RBI

Troy has the better overall numbers, but we still have a long season to go. I know you're a homer for Miggy, but at least give credit to the season Troy is putting together..

Has nothing to do with being a homer.....imagine the numbers miggy would put up if he played 81 games at coors.....i actually like tulo better than miggy.....just dont think hes a better hitter.....if tulo was a tiger, he would easily be my favorite player....tulo is easly one of my fav 3 players.

252 away from coors tells me everything i need to know..

As stated you aren't looking for any creditibility. That's a good thing, you accusing people of being sensitive is funny coming from you. The guy who defends anything Yankees in a very sensitive fashion. You used to a have signature that stated sarcasm was one of the services you offer...you have very little and have very touchy feelings. CSD you should truly read what your own post states and take notice of it. You sir are one who dishes and can not receive...

Quit taking stuff to heart. Embrace the Jeter strikeout thread and circus thread. Show us that sense of humor would ya one time?

Signed the second tool you came across here.

Yeah the self proclaimed "pretty face" that spends all of his time on here worrying about the tigers......you would think a pretty boy would have other things to do then be on a forum all day with ONE thing on his agenda.....irritate people. Get a life off of the net pretty ricky.....

Have they been there all year Bums? No, early on when they were hot they were near top. You type as if they have sucked all season. Not getting my goat Bums. You will have to try harder. Just like do you really think all will stay the same with Royals during this current streak. Win steaks and losing streaks always skew numbers. I don't feel the Tigers finish with 25th ERA in league when all said and done. Streaks happen and everything click during them. Besides Dougie most here have no issue with knowing the Tigers had some vary glaring weaknesses before season started.

Saying Fister would have ??? whatever here is unknown. Like I said with no run support ERA means nothing. Fister in Seattle and in Detroit are prime example. Smyly gave up 2 runs in both his last starts with 0 that is zero run support on the mound. Not many pitchers can have success with that either.

Problem is when the pitching does their job, the hitters dont.....when we give up 11 runs, then we score 8.....ERA is also hard to judge since many times its been one big inning that kills us.....would rather look at QS to judge starters....porcello is 8-4 and hes pitching in fisters spot....i dont see fister improving us to any more victories....especially since he was hurt for awhile....i hated the fister trade, but that wouldnt had mattered....tigers dont hit when they pitch well and hit when we dont pitch well....our ERA is high because of the BP. either way it goes, as bad as its been, were still only 1/2 game out.....i wasnt expecting wire to wire.....in the past few yrs cleveland and the sox have been in first place later in the season than now...so tigers are in a familiar position.

Yeah you know where me and gvsulaker stand. We both took alot of flack for thinking the team got worse this year....i stated no 7-8th inning help....losing power with fielder and peralta would make our 5-9 hitters not as balanced as before....losing fister.....didnt buy the rajai davis hype....yeah hes fast but he pops up all the time....

I was wrong about vmart tho....i stated he had 10-15 HR power and hes already smashed that....i was also worried about nicky c and hes been ok....didnt expect nathan to suck, but i have faith he will turn it around.

I think this team is worse for the long season, but if they make the post season, they will be built to win in the playoffs.....you have to find other ways to score in the postseason other than HR's, since most HR's are hit off mistakes, which come playoff time isnt much since the pitching is usually good. Nobody picked the cards and giants to win anything a few yrs ago either since they werent tearing up the regular season.

"The best hitter on the planet is Troy Tulowitzki, not on the Tigers"

I dont see where it says THIS SEASON.....so if he goes into a slump and someone passes him stat wise.....does that person become the best hitter on the planet? So we could have 10 different best hitters on the planet this year?

There is a kid batting .652 in minors. Minor little league that is. He said CSD better give him his due.

Tulo leads the league in wRC+ (188 to Trout's 181) and Trout has a 1 point advantage in OPS+ (185 to 184). Both stats are park and league adjusted.

WTF is wRC+???

I miss the old days where we kept simple stats to evaluate players, none of this new off the wall technical shit.

Miguel Cabrera is the best hitter on the planet....Til Trout takes him....Tulo is the best hitter this season...umm because he leads the league...now that was catching on fast...let me look to see who is leading the league and call them the best hitter on the planet, lol.

Pujols, Williams, Ruth...they lead the league every year they played, lol...nice logic.

I'm definitely under your skin! :laugh3:

I do need to correct you on a few points you made:

- I'm on here at the most 15-20 minutes a day. A post here, a post there., that's it. You have me confused with people that really do spend their entire day on this forum. I have a fantastic life off the internet thank you. Good try though Cleaves2000.

One with brains would assume I implied this season when I posted this season's stats for both players.

You catch on real fast Cleaves. The Chief needs to promote you straight to the detective division.

wRC+ has been around for a few years now... it's just like OPS+.
