Tulo is in his eighth season playing for the Rockies, and his highest season average (.315) does not even equal Miguel's CAREER average (.321).

Yeah, if you want to add in defense, given that Tulo plays a more key position, we can talk about the players' relative values. But in a "best hitter" conversation, Tulo doesn't belong.

As stated you aren't looking for any creditibility. That's a good thing, you accusing people of being sensitive is funny coming from you. The guy who defends anything Yankees in a very sensitive fashion. You used to a have signature that stated sarcasm was one of the services you offer...you have very little and have very touchy feelings. CSD you should truly read what your own post states and take notice of it. You sir are one who dishes and can not receive...

Quit taking stuff to heart. Embrace the Jeter strikeout thread and circus thread. Show us that sense of humor would ya one time?

Signed the second tool you came across here.

You mistake my sarcasm for sensitivity just because I'm defending the Yankees. And yes the Jeter strikeout thread is pointless, his K's this season are below average.

Troy is surely having a better seaon so far. The stats show that. Compare the last three seasons against anyone and that is why he a the purest hitter in the game. Troy plays at this level all year and yes, he will be in conversation.

Proud of you CSD. This just may be the first post in this thread that actaully has baseball substance. Keep up the good job Sport!

Of my 88 posts so far, easily 50+ have legitimate baseball substance loaded with facts and knowledge.

when was the last time, at any point after april for the last 4 or 5 years, that the Tigers were 25th or higher in team ERA?

in those 4 or 5 years, I would guess that their were a few "streaks".

This isn't about a "streak", I am just saying there is something out of the ordinary with the Tigers pitching numbers. If this was april, I wouldn't be saying a thing about a 25th ranking but if you want to say "it was a bad week" go ahead...a bad week doesn't take you from top to the bottom of the entire league in mid June.

Verlander and Max are going to be the keys and they both aren't coming close to what "projections" and predictions were. The great news is they both are capable of blowing the lid off for a few months but Verlander doesn't look like he can out pitch Porcello right now. Max should have a more realistic season to his abilities.

I wouldn't have guessed this would happen, nor even remotely thought that it would and not just picking on it because its the Tigers...the fact is I could say the same thing about Tampa Bay's pitching staff at least the DL has been a factor with them. Verlander gets DLed, then it would make more sense.

Never said a bad week. I said a streak. Which currently for the Tigers is about 3-4 weeks correct? Thanks captain obvious noticing something is off with Tigers pitching. Good catch Bums.

The last 4 years there was not a 9-20 stretch. At least what I remember.

Bums this would be a smaller discussion with most if the BP did not blow so many games IMO. I am glad this is happening right now before the deadline. Let's the Tigers know what they need.

We're talking about this season Howie115.

In pure numbers, Tulo likely is. In ballpark-adjusted numbers, no. But Miguel isn't the best this season, either (so far).

What was Detroit's ERA ranking say, three weeks ago? (They're 24th right now btw.).

Trying to pounce to insight is what he is good at Smitty. Royals were 2nd in AL in April and June in ERA. They were dead last in MLB in ERA in May. However streaks do not skew numbers. Hence the difference of going 12-17 and being 13-4 so far this month.

It was middle of the road Smitty...they were floating in the 15-20 range at the end of May Sitting between 10-15 early May. Sure there is a chart somewhere out there. That fucker would like a bad spin at Chutes and Ladders.

Bums to explain that bit more. Some people get the Dougie perception all is good when shit is status quo. Nathan does his job along with Coke and AlAl and the Tigers are still in first and all is good, when others here know different.

This huge downturn was needed, very needed for any later success this season.

Tulo leads the league in wRC+ (188 to Trout's 181) and Trout has a 1 point advantage in OPS+ (185 to 184). Both stats are park and league adjusted.

Miguel Cabrera is the best hitter on the planet....Til Trout takes him....Tulo is the best hitter this season...umm because he leads the league...now that was catching on fast...let me look to see who is leading the league and call them the best hitter on the planet, lol.

Pujols, Williams, Ruth...they lead the league every year they played, lol...nice logic.

like I said, Detroit for the last 4 or 5 years hasn't been 25th at any point in the season, they had good and bad streaks then too...for the Tigers, this kind of pitching hasn't been seen since 2005....and Verlander is the key...not the bullpen, Tigers have had shitty bullpens.

guess the "streak" is Verlander being a .500 pitcher for almost 45 starts now.

Can we wait until the deadline?

Detroit is still the favorite in this division, for good reason.

Not gonna lie Moose, Im disappointed they aren't going to be in first for all 162 games. Still could be for 159, but... only thing that matters now is who's in first at the end. If nothing else your Royals hot streak and my Tigs awful one have made for an active Smack Board. And that's always a good thing.

agree, I thought Detroit would have their best season in the last 5 years this year, I didn't think the royals had a shot with Vargas, Ventura and Duffy this season, all 3 are pitching better than expected...so anything close is a win.

I think Detroit will still win it, especially if they determine whats going on with Verlander and it gets fixed, if he is injured long term, they will beg for Fister back or try to get a replacement (better not be Shields or I will personally write a letter of reccomondation for Dougie as the next GM for the Royals)

Royals should have a better chance at the WC this season though.

They were much worse in '08 than they are right now.

I was trying to stay 4-5 years of numbers, I screwed up if I said longer than that. I knew they got sorta lucky early in Verlanders career.

I LOVED the Vargas signing. (About as much as Arroyo in Arizona tbh.). I was at Duffys shutout in Detroit last summer. (Fucker dominated.). So my eyeballs had given me a bloated, biased opinion somewhat. Ventures last string of starts seems sustainable. (Not double digit K's). My issue coming into the season with KC was the same as its been for several years. Where's the beef? Beltran might have done it for me, idk. But the lack of power in the lineup still stands out to me. They found some the last two weeks. It'll be an interesting summer if they keep finding it.

Yeah, as long is somewhat competent and hitting a few homers to go along with their high number of doubles they should be ok.

this season still hinges on Duffy and Ventura pitching like big leaguers. more than power...the problem hitting is actually getting any kind of hits, lol, Aoki, Infante, Hosmer, Butler, moose.....250.230.250.250 and .150 before the streak.
