We attempted to buy a ring not so long ago ... that's what Dombrowski does ... I am not going to criticize it ... It would not be my preferred way to run an organization.

If the Royals and White Sox go to rebuild mode....Detroit could have second place all but locked up by opening day. Avila can just sit on his hands, run his mouth, and keep his aging and overpaid lineup for another year. Hey...why even trade JD Martinez now? Keep him until the trade deadline in July. (I can't wait to see Mike Pelfrey come in to relieve Anibal Sanchez in the third inning)

Looks more and more likely that Detroit will keep the hand they were dealt. They will hope Zimmermann's arm comes around, that Upton hits like he did the second half, and Cabrera, VMart, Verlander, and Kinsler's ages don't result in major injuries. Add a AAAA backup catcher, figure out what bum fits in centerfield, and add a relief pitcher (so it appears you're concerned)......and Avila and Ausmus are ready for April. Second place looks like a go!!!!

Yep, still a long way to go in the hot stove league, but right now, it's looking like two winning records in the AL Central next season: Cleveland and Detroit. Unfortunately, I don't see the Tigers doing any better than a low- to mid-80s win total if they stand pat.
