Cabrera's eight year extension is just starting. I think that has a good chance of being a bitter pill.
I doubt Miggy is going to be worth 30 mil at the age of 40.. but they have a ton of money coming off the books in 2017 and 2018. Their money situation isn't going to be an issue. The luxury cap is going to increase by a good amount after next year.. the CBA is up and there is no way it doesn't increase with all the TV revenues coming in.Cabrera's eight year extension is just starting. you better hope david glass can afford a 170 mil payroll...because that is where they are at for next year.oh shit,
they just spent $173 mil for a last place AL Central finish
now your saying that spending $185 mil is going to get them a WS ring?
The cost of any luxary tax they might have to spend this year and next will be peanuts compared to what they can make if they won a WS before their TV contract is up. Plus the old man is worth a shit ton and can't take it with him. He will make it back on the TV deal alone if the Tigers have a few nice runs.

agreed but the only 1 out of those three I am really worried about not at least being able to contribute decent numbers is VMart... I think both Verlander and Miggy have a real good chance of being all star caliber players for the next 3 years.Don't disagree. My point is that the team's payroll is getting pretty top heavy and relying on some older players that have started to show signs of recurring health issues. Basically $60MM per over the next three for Verlander, Cabrera and Martinez. That's a lot of scratch to be tied up in those three if shit goes sour.

Yes it does.. the luxury tax line was set by the CBA. The new CBA will almost certainly increase it.The TV revenues are already coming in and MLB is rolling in that cash, but the CBA doesn't really effect it.
don't you have anyone else to talk to john travolta?David Glass has risen payroll 5 years in a row and got a ring, him and Dayton seem to know what they are doing. Pretty sure Glass signed off on every contract.
going to be a very bitter pill paying Miggy 32 mil at 40, but its working out well for Pujols and ANA

Like MV said, money is coming off the books shortly. I wouldn't be worried about his age 40 season, I'd be worried about the next three years.

Kinda like Gordon could end up getting paid big money to sit on the DL?agree, Miggy's health problems as well as Verlanders could be 60 mil on the bench.
KC has the smallest TV contract in the MLB... and because their market is the smallest... they probably are not looking at getting more than what a team like the Tigers get now. The ratings are nice.. but fact is there just aren't even close to enough TV's in the KC market to buy them a big time TV deal when their current one is up in 2018.After two WS runs, one title and all the TV money, he can.
