Lets be honest with each other... If you had to put $10,000 on who would be a better hitter in 3 years.. would you really pick Alex Gordon over Miggy?

KC has the smallest TV contract in the MLB... and because their market is the smallest... they probably are not looking at getting more than what a team like the Tigers get now. The ratings are nice.. but fact is there just aren't even close to enough TV's in the KC market to buy them a big time TV deal when their current one is up in 2018.

I'm talking about the money they're now raking in because of the Dodger's TV contract and others like it.

We weren't talking about the Royals revenues in comparison to the Tigers. We were talking about the Royals' ability to spend $170MM.

The dodgers tv deal is theirs and theirs alone. Its a regional TV deal. The only TV money the Royals get outside of their regional deal is from national deals with the MLB. Dodgers TV deal has nothing to do with the royals at all.

False.

Go out on the Internets, son. Learn something.

I'd say two things - one I agree they couldn't do it for a sustained period, but they could for five years or so. Also, I don't think $170MM will be a top five figure for much longer.

Ok... I see the MLB takes about 30% of the regional deals... That means that 90 mil is spread across the board... How much do you really think the Royals are getting a year from this? They got about 30 mil in revenue sharing in 2013... so you think that is going to supplement them into being a top 5 payroll team?

we are talking value and they both probably won't be worth what they will actually hit.

There is no way the Royals can operate without losing money at that payroll. This first sniff of not making the playoffs and the Royals are going to be in fire sale mode that is going to make the Marlin's front office blush.

You are seriously too stupid for me to have this conversation with.

If the Royals stumble.. which I believe they will.. big time... They are going to trade Hosmer, Cain, and Moustakas for sure. They have to restock their farm system some how so they can start over and have a soft landing...

I find it quite stupid to have someone telling me that the Royals can afford to field even a top 10 payroll when they have the smallest market in MLB. The Royals will lose 30-40 mil a year if they try to stay at that level. They couldn't even get 3 mil in attendance last year in the middle of a WS series run a season after being in the WS.

"Glass is one of the wealthier owners in professional sports but he is reluctant to go on record stating his net worth"

Payroll has always been about how much the owner has and willing to spend, the TV deals were just gravy.

I believe Glass could make KC top 3 in payroll, if he wanted, but I am positive he will never spend as foolishly as the Top 5 do.

David Glass wasn't even a billionaire until a few years ago... He isn't Mike Ilitch.. He doesn't have money to burn like that.

He is no where NEAR one of the wealthiest owners in pro sports... Get the fuck out of here. He isn't even one of the wealthiest in the MLB.
