I'm not very optimistic about Randy...

You're right, but Hill also has a 39.5 inch vertical & I've heard he has pretty long arms even for a 6'4 guy (don't know the measurements though). That's usually pretty hard to cover in the end zone unless the guy's completely uncoordinated.

Here you go.......

Top 25 WR arm length:

Streeter - 34.75
Quick - 34.25
Childs - 34.12
D. Jones - 34
Fuller - 33.62
Sanu - 33.50
Hill - 33.38
M. Jones - 33.12
Benford - 33.12
Randle - 33
Jeffery - 33
Cunningham - 33
Robinson - 33
Floyd - 32.88
Jackson -32.88
Jenkins - 32.75
Graham - 32.75
Moye - 32.75
Blackmon - 32.50
Matthews - 32.50
Toon - 32.50
Hemingway - 32.50
Boykin - 32.25
Kearse - 32.12
Criner - 32
Hilton - 32
McNutt - 32
Brazill -32

In their first three years (Stokes first, then Crabtree):

Games: 34/48
Receptions: 114/175
Yards: 1499/2240
Yards per Reception. 13.33/12.8
TD's: 8/12
Receptions per game: 3.3/4.2
Yards per game: 43.47/53.3

Keep in mind that Stokes was injured in his second season, and played in only 6 games. Extrapolated at their per game numbers, these are essentially the same player.

Why exactly isn't Crabtree expendable?

IMO, Crabtree is completely expendable, but he is also on the cheap for the next 3 years as compared to his replacement cost per production.

As much as I despise Crabby, I'd give him one more year (unless the Niners can trade him) before they give him the boot. I'd like to see what he can do with a foot that's 100% recovered.

I'd like to see what he can do in a Rams uniform. I'm not holding my breath on his ability to turn his career away from "I'm J.J. Stokes all over again."

I don't see his trade value as much, given his playoff performances. He was so invisible he might as well have been injured and in street clothes.

5 for 28 on 16 targets. Pathetic.

I like the sound of that.

And I agree eggs are great. Quite underrated. If I had enough room I'd have a chicken coup & put eggs on everything.

Steak and eggs, egg burritos, hard boiled eggs w/ egg sauce, and my favourite: eggs w/ Llama.

He'd be a real fun project and an exciting developmental WR to have as a coach. Real high but as I said before if you would have forced me to take a wide receiver at that spot he would have been one of maybe three I'd have chosen there (Hill, Jarius Wright and Jenkins).

Four basic concerns I'd have with him going in:

Weight/strength - Will he be able to keep weight on? What do those in the know have to say about him in the weight room. How good is he at taking care of his body? Alot of players have those concerns coming into the NFL but he's a baby in terms of his physical development. He needs alot of work in learning how to disengage at the LOS (maybe the biggest worry I have right now).

Concentration lapses - He has had a problem with drops. It seemed to be either losing concentration or he would let the ball into his body too much. He got better this last year but he's not the most feisty hands catcher.

Overall inconsistency - As a route runner he needs to become consistently more precise. Right now he rounds some of his routes, doesn't always do a good job of setting up defenders and sometimes he's wild coming out of his breaks.

Immaturity: He is a very confident person and doesn't always express it the way alot of coaches/people would like. He isn't the most eloquent speaker. I don't think anybody believes he doesn't work hard but I think some people have the belief that he thinks he's already better than he actually is because he lets his mouth go off from time to time. He could end up being one of those guys the media will run to when they need a spicy prediction for an upcoming game. He has a history of giving predictions. Some people may believe he's a little cocky. That could end up rubbing some fans the wrong way especially if he starts talking early.

Fantastic insight. Thanks Pozz

And the reason Baalke decided to pull the trigger when he did.....

Rams miss out on Jenkins

So he never would've made it to our pick because the Rams would've scooped him up with one of their 2nd round choices.

RT @SI_PeterKing Just talked to one team with a receiver need who liked first-round stunner AJ Jenkins over Michael Floyd.

Walterfootball had him as a high second in their last mock...I wouldn't call #30 a first round stunner. Think that belongs to the Seahawks, Bucs and even Vikings well before us.

We got Randy Moss for that. We also have Vernon Davis. Plus, just because Hill is 6'4" doesn't necessarily mean he's gonna be a potent redzone WR. Jenkins is a more complete WR, and is more ready.

Basing this on the little that I've read about him since the pick and his size more than anything...but any Victor Cruz comparisons?

Size, route running, hands, versatility?

Cruz was off the street so not the same bargain, but I'll happily take the production.

Waited for this moment, feel unfullfilled but in Baalke I trust.

I wonder how much of a deep threat Jenkins is and how confident he is with getting contact in the upper level.

Interesting pick. I haven't seen much of him, so its not fair for me to judge the pick until I become more educated. I do like the explosiveness he adds to the team. Looking forward to tomorrow and how this whole Niner draft shakes out...

No it's not! It's a bad pick. That's the bottom line. Of all the regulars I'm probably the only one feeling very uneasy about this 1st round selection. It's not an awful / hideous pick, but certainly a bad pick. I would much rather select the other Jenkins in the first. In the 2nd round wait for Hill or A.J. Jenkins. Trade up for that matter (early 2nd) to nab Jenkins if you love him that much. I don't see a huge drop off from Jenkins and Hill. Both of them will not contribute much in 2012...so.

As a receiver though I like him better than Ginn. He has better hands than anyone in our current roster maybe of the exception of Moss. Manningham, Williams, Ginn without a doubt have worse hands than he does. AJ Jenkins to me is another Doug Baldwin in terms of the quality receiver that he is. He can stretch the field but no fellas...stop it, he's not a Mike Wallace / Desean Jackson type receiver when being asked to play that role. As a matter of fact he's like a smart / tough receiver like Baldwin with the ability to stretch the field like Mario Manningham. Those are some good assets. But still a bad pick IMO.

In 2010 I was disappointed when we selected my 2nd rated receiver (Crabtree) ahead of my 1st rated receiver (Harvin). This is a similar example where my 5th rated receiver (Jenkins) is selected ahead of my 3rd rated receiver (Hill). The ultimate reason for my disappointment though is passing up on some better players to acquire him.

I like next year's WR class than the 2012 class anyway. I don't think Sam Bradford and AJ Jenkins would scare me much more in comparison to Sam Bradford and one of those "elite" 1st round receivers in 2013. BTW, Sam Bradford and Stephen Hill scares me more than Sam Bradford and AJ Jenkins.
