It does...if someone has bad hands/body catches it is more difficult to improve with coaching than someone with good hands/natural catching motion. You can be taught concentration much more easily, IMO.

if someone doesn't develop soft hands before the nfl they aren't gonna do it afterwards.

After having watched tape after having picked AJJ, there are a few things I noticed. He is below average at getting off the line cleanly but his game speed and hands are well above average. I like the pick but hope a) that Moss pans out while this kid hopefully gets in the weight room and works with the coaches on LOS technique and b) this kid has an unbelievable work ethic. Jerry, where you at? Got some time to tutor?

this is what i don't like about the pick. we might have spent a 1st rounder on a slot wr. the more and more i think about it, we should have spent a 3rd to move up for decastro.

Like the pick. Like his confidence and his competitive attitude. Doesn't sound like a diva just sounds confident in his abilities. 90+ catches you can't argue with that. Seems like we were looking for someone similar to Mike Wallace. If Kendall Wright was still availabe maybe we get him who knows? Harbaalke probably knew he wasn't going to be there at 30 which is why they canceld their meeting w/ him. Didn't trade up because they felt comfortable picking Jenkins.

That is my point, thank you for agreeing. So if Hill has a concentration problem, is can be fixed. Thus, it makes a difference.

people always brush off bad hands as being concentration problems...

A player can improve his hands in the NFL. Vernon Davis' hands are MUCH better now than they were coming out of college. They still aren't great, or even particularly good, but they are better. I agree that, generally, a guy won't go from having poor hands in college to having great hands in the pros. But I don't think he's done in that area at the college level.

That is true. I think in most cases - though not all - it goes deeper than just concentration. That said, I think there are some guys who have good hands but have legitimate concentration lapses. I think Crabtree could fall into this category, but we'll see.

MW and I had a discussion about Ginn's hands awhile back where he was saying that Ginn had potentially good hands because they were "soft," he just lacked concentration. Ginn doesn't fight the ball, true. Unfortunately, he doesn't catch it, either. Is it just concentration? I don't know. But in Ginn's case I think there's something more to it (granted closing his eyes is a problem). At this point, Ginn seems unlikely to change. I'll be interested to see if Crabtree improves in this area at all if he plays this preseason. He has better hands than Ginn, no doubt, and can make tougher catches, but the drops on the short stuff are worrisome.

we don't know yet, Baalke feels AJ can play anywhere? not having ideal height doesn't mean he can't play outside?

in general.......yes we would've preferred a tall gazelle for the outside. but a quality "slot receiver" can do damage too.

i wanted a slot receiver for 'shorter' and middle routes, granted was thinking 4th round or later? if AJ fills this role to start off his career, we can certainly use it.

Now, the pick makes sense. Thank you. Big Rep.

yep, it definitely helps knowing another team REALLY wanted AJ. hopefully, we'll read a few more teams were interested too? cause at 'first glance', it did appear we pulled a 'Jacksonville'?

not that solid validation matters at this point, just would be nice to read. we all know what really matters is how AJ pans out.

Here's a question for you AJ Jenkins fans: how good do you think he'll be? Name a WR or two to whom you think AJ will favourably compare.

I wouldn't call myself a fan or educated enough about the guy to make this comparison but from what little I've seen/read I'd answer your question with: somewhere between Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown.

I'm hoping for Steve Smith but I'd settle for a better version of Wes Welker :couch2:

I'd say he reminds me of Mike Wallace and DeSean Jackson. Runs in the 4.3's with hands. Line him up on the same side as VD and give a safety nightmares.

90 catches for close to 1300 yards and 8 tds of which 5 were for more than 50 yards. He accounted for over have of Illinois' passing yards and TD. Add in their passing offense was one of the worst in the nation and who his QB was and you start to realize this kid has talent. Only weapon they had and he still dominated ina crappy offense. He is a little small, but gtf over it

So you the people who like Jenkins are looking for something like an 1100-1200 yard season from him by his 2nd year?

ok i'm watching some highlights of this guy, trying hard to sell myself on this pick. i knew he had good hands before the draft, but damn his qb threw some ugly wobbly balls. jenkins just snatches em out of the air like nothing.
