Wow.
That s a great shot.
That actually looks like the call from the replay umps was PERFECT. There was no way Blanco could get to the plate without blowing Flowers up. And tat is the point if the rule.
Much less questionable than I thought.
Blanco is clearly about 2 more feet back on that shot. He was out by a mile and it's not even close. The spirit of the game has been crushed. This must be changed pronto and I mean pronto.
If a playoff game or spot in the playoffs is decided by a play like this it will be the utmost of travesties.

Reason number 456,937 BoB is not an MLB manager...
Yes, Blanco is out by a mile (or about 10 feet), but Flowers has violated the letter of the law by blocking the plate.
They won't change it during the season, get used to it for now.
I wonder how many of these calls using the new rule have been reviewed this season. Anyone know?
I went out to teach a kid in the neighborhood to drive. His parents won't let him drive. He's had a permit for a year, driving test Friday, and he has less than 10 hours behind thd wheel. Glad i left in time for some runs to score. I am actually quite fond of Giants wins. Like i am fond of winning the lottery.
Oh, and BoB, it is "have" not "of". I would have, not would of.
If he's under 18, somebody (a legal guardian) has to sign an affidavit that the kid has 50 hours of driving practice. Will his parents do that?
Wow.

Let me wiegh in from Portugal....we went over this when the rule was proposed. The rule book has ALWAYS forbidden contact at home plate. It was not enforced for almost 100 years, but it's always been illegal. If the catcher has the ball, running into him is interference and the runner is out. If he doesn't have the ball, it's obstuction and the runner is safe. We actually didn't need a "new" rule to protect the catcher, we simply needed to enforce the ones on the books.
By analogy, a runner cannot blow up the first basemen on a bang/bang play. Yet, for some bizarre reason, doing the same thing to a catcher is "manly." It's horseshit and the "new" rule was long overdue.
Anyone who looks at it differently likely would prefer the earth be flat and baseball not allow "those colored boys."
Off to Ireland...
Speaking of rules not being enforced, for some reason, I've been getting pissed all season when a guy runs to first inside the baseline during the last 40 feet or so. The rules clearly call out the lane the runner is supposed to use, but so many players run with AT LEAST one foot inside the baseline - and some run with BOTH feet inside the baseline.
I really wish a catcher would have the balls to plunk the guy in the back/shoulder on the throw to first and then ask the ump to call interference. (The only penalty that can be called is if the runner interferes with the play.)
6.05 A batter is out when— {...}
(k) In running the last half of the distance from home base to first base, while the ball is being fielded to first base, he runs outside (to the right of) the three-foot line, or inside (to the left of) the foul line, and in the umpire’s judgment in so doing interferes with the fielder taking the throw at first base, in which case the ball is dead; except that he may run outside (to the right of) the three-foot line or inside (to the left of) the foul line to avoid a fielder attempting to field a batted ball
I would sooooo love to see Buster nail a guy running inside the line to first.
Oh, and tzill : por que você está em Portugal?
Oh, and (if you like stout) make sure to get a pint of gravity-pulled Guiness while you are in Eire. It is *nothing* like the crap they ship to the U.S. Of course, once you do that, you'll realize what crap they serve over here and so it might not be worth it to drink the real thing ...
Taking a tour of the Guiness plant while there; much mothers milk will be consumed. Flying into Dublin, and heading south to Cork and the rest of the Dingle peninsula.
Going to try and find something Jewish to see there besides my (hot) wife.
I want to hear from guys like Fisk and Bench.

Did you really type that without thinking: "Ummm, maybe I am going a little overboard here?" lol
