Giants win 7-1 and that is good but not happy the way it was handed over to them by a bad rule and a umpires decision. Peavy did pitch his heart out but my stomach hurts about that phony HP rule.

I FULLY agree that the rule, as written, is not good. However, the thought behind the rule is legit. And following the rule, as it is written, and how I have heard the play described, the ruling was accurate.

As msg stated, though, this will be one of the prime examples in the offseason (or maybe before?) to tighten up the language of the rule so it makes more sense.

At the time of the Posey blow-up, tz made a pretty convincing argument that the rules were already in place to protect catchers. Just apply the interference rules. Treat a catcher the same exact way a 2B/SS is treated. If the 2B/SS interferes with the runners access to the bag, the runner is safe. If the runner interferes with the 2B/SS ability to catch the ball, the runner is out. Umpires discretion.

Done. Game over. No new rules needed.

What's next...Catchers getting concussions behind the plate so no more catchers. Put a big net back there and if the ball goes in it's a strike. A throw home that beats the runner and crosses the plate before the runner gets there the runner is out. What a joke.

Oh yeah Fireman can't carry big water hoses into fires anymore because it might hurt their backs.

Actually that's EXACTLY what Scott Cousins thought and then did, and why Posey got his leg destroyed, and why that rule is there now. Any player who does that now will be immediately banned from baseball.

Posey was out of position when he got hurt. Any catcher will tell you that. Watch the play. I am sorry he got hurt but Posey is part responsible for getting his leg hurt. I don't blame Cousins at all. It was a big play in extra innings and he did his best. I have no doubt in my mind that Cousins was not trying to hurt anyone on that play.

Posey did not set his leg properly. That is true. But Cousins had a clear lane to the plate, but he chose to change directions a good 4-5 steps before he got there to blow Posey up.

In the culture of the game at the time, it was a good hard-nosed play. But it was a stupid culture for the game to have. Catchers gear is there to help cushion the blow of pitches and foul balls, not professional athletes running at full speed.

No throwing inside to hitters or there will be hell to pay...warned and tossed

No arguing anymore ...It does.nt look good on the game

Can't block the plate like the game intended originally in the rules

No more physical plays in sports anymore

Next year dresses and skirts handed out to players because men are not allowed to play anymore

I went out to teach a kidin the neighborhood to drive. His parents won't let him drive. He's had a permit for a year, driving test Friday, and he has less than 10 hours behind the wheel. Glad I left in time for some runs to score. I am actually quite fond of Giants wins. Like i am fond of winning the lottery.
