Were you watching? The dumb luck was he got his first batter to hit an easy grounder right up the middle, which hit off his foot and became a hit. He pitched well when he was supposed to, at least for that first batter. Game shoulda been over based on how he got the ball put in play.

I'd rather spend the money on quality bullpen help, and go with Mac/Parker in the OF.

For the 2017 payroll, we are already at $176.7mm after we exercise the team option on Moore, but before we re-sign Casilla, which I assume we will. 2016 San Francisco Giants Current and Future Payrolls | Baseball-Reference.com

Basically, giving a 2/20 to Pagan puts us over the cap for 2017, unless they raise it beyond the $189mm for 2016. I had not heard anything on that.

So unless they raise the cap for 2017, don't expect any major FA signings after we win WSCIV

I have us at 165.0 for the 25 man, figured as follows:

Under contract: Cain, Posey, Pence, Cueto, Samardzjia, Bumgarner, Belt, Crawford, Moore, Span -- 146.7 M
Arb extended (estimates): Nunez (2.5), Smith (2), Gearrin (0.8) -- 5.3 M
On minimum contracts: Panik, Heston, Strickland, Adrianza, Osich, Tomlinson, Brown, Law, Parker, Williamson
-- 5 M
FA resigned (est): Casilla (8) -- 8M

Total: 165.0 M, and that includes picking up Moore's option, re-signing Casilla, and arbitration with Nunez/Smith/Gearrin. Now, Nunez might get a bit more as an arb3, but I think the numbers are pretty close. To fill out the 40 man, you're talking a couple of million, so I think my numbers and yours are 20M apart.
