Yep, he has about another months worth of quality starts before he's considered in SF. I think Blackburn is still the best option. Heston needs to be stretched out a bit longer.

Maybe I'm misremembering how ER are calculated, but I thought you go back and reconstruct the inning without the error. If you do that the top of the second goes:

double, single (run), single, FC, SF (run), single, line out.

How are there three earned runs?

I'm so rusty on that, I cannot remember very well. Last night's runs scored (earned vs. unearned) seemed off too.

I didn't watch the game, but they only lost by 4 to a GREAT team. Not sure that is worth criticism...

Using tzill's method of calculating earned runs, looks at last night's debacle of an inning:

home run (run), double, GO (error), single (run), GO (error), double (bases should be empty, both unearned runs), GO

By this calculation, only 2 of the 13 runs last night in the 5th should have been earned, both counting against Cain. Technically, that would make Mazzaro's ERA a pristine 0.00. Instead, it was like they reset the inning with Mazzaro pitching and counted everything but two runs.
