I didn't watch the game, but they only lost by 4 to a GREAT team. Not sure that is worth criticism...

He did say not elite. Only 2 true elite teams in the NBA this year, with maaaaaybe Cleveland the 3rd

Belt has really reached his projected potential this year. I'm glad we stuck with him, I think all of us wanted to cut bait on him at one time or another.
I think "cut bait" is a strong phrase. I think anytime he was mentioned, we always wanted a solid return because we knew he was full of potential.

Right now, he is just south of MLB elite 1B status.

Using tzill's method of calculating earned runs, looks at last night's debacle of an inning:

home run (run), double, GO (error), single (run), GO (error), double (bases should be empty, both unearned runs), GO

By this calculation, only 2 of the 13 runs last night in the 5th should have been earned, both counting against Cain. Technically, that would make Mazzaro's ERA a pristine 0.00. Instead, it was like they reset the inning with Mazzaro pitching and counted everything but two runs.
I think we need Henry to look into this and tweet an answer...

7.1 IP. He got attacked by bad D in his blow-up inning, so hard to blame him for much of that.

Dude is an Ace.

I don't figure it that way. I found these rules:

First, two basic rules: if a batter reaches base because of an error or stays on the bases because of an error and then scores a run, that run is unearned. Also, if runs score after error-free play would have resulted in three outs, those runs are unearned.

So putting those together, last night:

HR (run), double, RBE, 1B (run), FC/Error, 2B (2 runs), GO. Inning should have ended there with 3 ER. Everything after that would be unearned.

Gearrin is a poor-mans Kontos.

When we get Greek and Romo back, FYWW should be somewhat fine.

Who scores the third earned run, Arenado or Parra? The way I figure it, Arenado is out at 1st on his ground ball to Crawford had Crawford not made the bad throw. Parra should have been out on the fielder's choice but was safe at 2nd because of Tomlinson's error. Both scored on Wolters' double.

How do you get 3 runs out of that?

The 2 runs scored on the second double should unearned, as both runners should have been out earlier in the inning.

Well, go back and reconstruct:

HR, that's one ER. 2b, out, 1b (second ER), out, 2b (third ER), out.

You're forgetting Parra's single. Reconstruct the inning without errors and you'll see what I mean.

I'm not forgetting Parra's single, I'm not counting his score as an earned run because of the bolded line above.
