Geez. WTF happened to the Blues? That roster is loaded.. How in the world do they look pathetic? How do we do on the Schenn trade if they miss the playoffs?

They can't score and their starting goalie Jake Allen is playing pretty terribly too.

2.23 goals scored per game since December 10th. That would be the lowest production in the Nhl by far if extrapolated across an entire season. Buffalo is the worst at 2.39.

The Kings are better, maybe even the Flames too when they get Smith back.

On the flip side, we've been scoring at a pace of 3.14 goals per game since the beginning of December. That's not up there with the top scoring teams in the Nhl, but it's still pretty good.

Goes to show you. When that deal was made it was a move to put St Louis over the top and to help us with the rebuild

Here we are as contenders with a great asset in Frost and another pick for an asset or a trade chip

Blues lost to the Jets last night at home 4-0. 3-6-1 in last 10 games. They currently have a 1 point lead over the Kings for the 2nd wildcard spot but Kings have played 1 less game. If the Blue pick is in the top 10, they can keep it this year and it becomes a 1st in 2019. If they defer to 2019, we also get a 3rd. I have seen articles that Morgan Frost will have a real shot of making the roster next year.

If they somehow defer (meaning we get an extra 3rd round pick) and Frost makes the team next season, that should change a lot of opinions on the Schenn trade. Quite frankly, some have probably changed already.

Lehtera was essentially a salary dump so that they could fit Schenn under their cap, not an actual player we were expecting to get anything significant out of. He has improved throughout the season though as a 3rd/4th liner for us, I'll give him that.

Once he is gone, our other 1st round selection is made and Frost is on the team, things look differently.

Man oh man this team is fun right now. Playing very well. Patrick, Konecny, Provorov, Ghost, and now Lindblom really starting to compliment Giroux, Voracek, and Couturier. This is so exciting to watch.

Reports out of Buffalo are Evander Kane is a healthy scratch for tonight's game vs the Caps. I wonder who he is being traded to? No reports where he is going, but it's interesting after last week we kept hearing about Philly and the Sabres being trade partners? I hope it's not us though. I have heard Pens and a couple other teams NJ?

Hopefully out west! I don't think the Pens will have money for him after getting Brassard, so that's at least good.

I'm a little pissed about the brassard trade. Apparently Winnipeg had a deal and Vegas got involved eating 40% of his salary for pit otherwise they couldn't do it. Although their D was weakend losing Cole and they are getting older. Either way if Vegas doesn't get involved it doesn't happen. Philly will kick their ass anyway!!!

I'd like to see the Flyers get Hoffman not an idiot like Kane. That would add a little extra firepower and may put them over. Not a rental either... that guy was good tonight.

What they're saying about Flyers: Latest 2018 NHL trade deadline rumors

I could get on board with Karlsson here.

If the Senators want to set up their franchise for the future, who better to trade with than the team with the deepest prospect pool. While the roster player may be of lesser quality, as I wouldn’t expect Hextall to trade any of their stars or rookies, they can offer a higher quality and quantity of prospects.

The trade would center around at least one of the Flyers’ first round picks in the 2018 draft, and at least two top prospects, including both a forward and a defenseman...

Now, back to reality.

The Flyers are in a great position to succeed in this season and beyond. They are a playoff team with aspirations for more. Trading for Karlsson could put them over the top, but it could also salvage too much of the future if Hextall isn’t careful. I don’t think he’ll make the big splash, but I could see why some want him to and why he himself might even be thinking about it.

I wouldn't trade for Karlsson unless he signs an extension and we don't have to give up our whole farm to get him.

If those terms were met, it's something to look at, for sure. We do have an extra 1st round pick and someone like Sanheim is probably expendable, so that's a start, but it would probably take a roster player and another pick/prospect.

However, with the win yesterday and loss by Shitsburgh, I'd say we're officially the hottest team in the Nhl as of this moment.

I don't like how we take the foot off the gas pedal at times in games or stop playing defense, but we are extremely clutch when it matters and our captain is a big reason why. He really could win the Hart Trophy as league MVP.

This game was hanging in the balance yesterday when G took a pass and went in on a breakaway, deking Anderson out of his goalie equipment to score just inside the far post. It will be one of the highlight reel goals of the year, for sure, and it essentially won us the game.

So, as terrible as we looked late in the 1st period, our group of men came together and really blitzed Ottawa early in the 3rd to put them away for good, only to later allow them a couple garbage time goals.

With many of our rivals buying at the deadline here, it bodes the question what Hexy will do, if anything, between now and tomorrow at 3 pm et.

How about that second line of Lindblom, Patrick and Voracek? Between those two rookies at even strength and on the top power play unit, we can almost accidentally forget that Wayne Simmonds (a perennial 30 goal man) is injured. Jake is teaching these kids and they are apparently a quick study. That and Lindblom obviously prepared himself for the Nhl very adequately at the Ahl level before returning.

I mean, that could soon be line 1B for us, which is saying a lot considering how well Konecny, Giroux and Couturier have played as the definite top line.

If we can upgrade our third line and penalty killing without breaking the bank, I am all for it, but perhaps we're even doing that from within the organization.

Between Provorov, Konecny, Hagg, Patrick and Lindblom, there's a lot of young talent that looks very comfortable in Philly right now.

A few other notes from this game yesterday afternoon:

Giroux and Provorov team up for a pretty goal that is appropriately just 28 seconds into the game.

Hagg picks up the puck at the red line, skates through essentially four Senators and beats Anderson short side all by himself. Where did that come from!?!

Giroux and Patrick stay white hot with back to back goals in the 3rd to put the game away, Giroux via that breakaway and Patrick a subtle deflection.

Our final goal by Manning was one of the strangest you will ever see and ended up being decently important. He dumps the puck into the corner from center ice and it bounces literally straight across and just inside the far post of a vacant net as Anderson had gone around behind to intercept. Probably the weirdest bounce of a puck I've ever witnessed it my life. It's hilarious because Anderson actually was able to turn and helplessly watch the puck trickle into his empty cage. That's when you know it's not your night...or year...Lol!!

Christ, if the Rags can get that much for Nash as a rental, the Flyers definitely have to wonder what they can get for Simmer at the deadline next season or in the offseason. This is especially the case with our younger players taking major strides toward successfully filling his void with each passing day.

Come to think of it adding Lindblom may be better than any trade that they can make as they lose nothing. With Manning playing like he has do they even need a Dman upgrade? Couldn't hurt but it's coming from within soon enough... hard call.

I agree with you, if he can be as effective keep him up. But if you can keep him up and add another piece well..:D

I honestly think Hextall may make one small mover tomorrow for a winger imo.. I still keep thinking about Rhinehart and how he would be a very nice fit here. He can play center or winger. I'm not so sure he would cost us a fortune either.
