this is gonna be easy for me to say since he isnt on my team, but fuck Trent Williams. He constantly wants a new deal with multiple years left on his deals. Right now he is on the hook for another three years.
If the Niners want to barter with him. So be it. Why wouldnt you with one of the top guys. However they arent forced to do a deal with him. They can tell his ass (& I know they wont) go ahead & retire. What are you gonna do sit for three years?
To be fair the Redskins fucked with him and made him this way.

Who is the man who said Ayuik was a $30 million dollar player?

You can quote this post if you feel like you owe me an apology and a “Fightin Funbags, you were right.”

@fightinfunbags you were right.

IMO SF shit the bed here. Bad contract. But, that is in issue for another season. For this season they need to get Williams in and go for a SB. Williams is 10 times better and more important to the team winning. If they get a SB, then it is all worth it for sure.

edit- need to see the details but I'm assuming it's the standard and not a high $ year 4 he will never see or with an "out" after 2 or 3 years.

I wonder if Deebo's agent has already reached out to Lynch or if he waits until after the season

Seems more like SF caving than a good long term move. Trent Williams is not really a guy to get into a staring contest with if history is any indication. Purdy’s contract needs to be done ASAP to control costs too. Bad spot.

Yep. San Frans window is literally right now. They have to push in all their chips, give Williams what he wants and hope they win a championship this season. If they don't, Williams is 37 going into next year, Purdy will no longer be super cheap and they will be paying a bunch of guys or starting to lose guys. The division is getting more competitive and even that is not a given. Win it all and worth it, fall short because of injuries, SB hangover or whatever else and they will be in a tough situation going forward.

Don’t mean to repeat myself, but it’s foolish to not pay players quickly that you’re going to pay eventually.

It just costs you more money.

John Lynch knows this, but thought he could play games. Very foolish imo.

Gonna cost him talent.
Um…

Yourealize, I trust, that it does take two parties to sign a contract. Right?

Just noticed that this is a 4 year EXTENSION. That means he is playing under the 14M 5th year option this year.

So in essence, this is a 5/134, which actually places it at UNDER 27M aav
So, I was kinda right

When teams do it right and build the culture with the guys drafted you have players willing to restructure so that they can keep the band together and their brothers can get access to generational wealth. You also need an owner who is willing to break off about 10-12 million each off season out of the profits for upfront cash as a give and take with the restructures.

There’s so much money. There’s no need to nickel and dime people. This is what the good organizations do. It starts with leadership. Tom Brady is the famous example.

Sure.

We gonna pretend they made him an offer like this in the spring?
Are you pretending that he would have accepted that if it had, and not just used that as the first volley and used that as the benchmark he used during his holdout instead?

I think Deebo is on his last contract with the Niners personally.

It's going to be $134M over 5 years. We don't yet know how much he'll get in 2024. It's unlikely to be just the original $14.124M 5th year option amount and the cap number will also change. Most of the 2024 salary will almost certainly be converted into a signing bonus as part of the 2024 changes. We're still waiting for the details to be released. The 2028 numbers won't be guaranteed and they're unlikely to be exercised so it won't even be $134M over 5 years. It'll end up being 4 years at somewhere between $100M and $120M.

Have you seen this posted somewhere? When the news broke, it was reported as a 4/120 extension. I read that as simply a tack-on to the existing deal. Otherwise, I would expect it to have been reported as a “5/134 rework” (or something similar).

Reporters today are super lazy with their word choices, so I may very well be attributing too much intention and care to the words used during the breaking report, though.

I haven't seen anything but there are good cap reasons not to keep the current year as it is. Lawrence, Love, and Tagovailoa all signed extensions to their remaining 1 year deals. None of them kept to their existing 2024 details. It's normal to do this, and not just for QBs. I expect Aiyuk to be receive more than $14.1M this year and I expect the 2024 cap figure to go down.

Bullshit. The Redskins gave him a huge deal, per his request it was front loaded. When he got near the end of the deal he made some bullshit medical claim that he refused to allow the NFLPA to follow up on because he knew it was bullshit. Claimed nobody from the Redskins visited him in the hospital when that was simply not true. Then he refused to honor the deal, claiming the front loaded years were "in the past". He was an asshole in Washington.

Aiyuk's contract details are now available at Spotrac and Overthecap. It's a $134.124M contract over 5 years. Basically the 1st 2 years are fully guaranteed, (apart from the per game active roster bonuses - max possible $750K for the year). The 3rd year fully guarantees, (apart from identical bonuses), before the 2nd season, (2025), begins. Surprisingly there are no further guarantees. The 3 year maximum total is $76M, ($25.333M average). The no guarantee 4th year is $28.124M, ($104.124M total, $26.031M average). The no guarantee 5th year is for $30M.

In real terms it's a 3 year deal for $72.632M plus a $3.368M non-refundable deposit on 2 no-guarantee team option seasons in 2027 & 2028. It's what many of us think he's worth but less than we thought he'd accept.

Looks like the 49ers got Aiyuk at the price they wanted after all was said and done. Staying firm worked out for the 49ers.

Absolutely, although we don't know how things would have played out if he hadn't been adamant. Maybe they'd have tried to make him play out his 5th year option. I don't blame the 49ers for trying to get the best deal on their side, or blame him for holding in, (but I think he should have done it on the 4th year of his rookie deal). I have to believe Aiyuk could have earned more from a team that traded for him. He may have left $7-8M on the table by chasing a ring. Supposition on my part.
