For the most part, those were some pretty nice times for Flyer fans while ESPN covered the sport of hockey. Lindros, LeClair and Renberg made up the Legion of Doom line, arguably the dominant line of the 90's, which led us to the Cup Finals in 1997, only to be absolutely stymied, upset and swept by an upstart Detroit Red Wings squad (hadn't won a Cup in some 55 odd years) that eventually went on to become a modern day dynasty.

Ok, so it was actually 42 seasons before they had won a Cup, but a long damn time either way. The year was '55, which is probably how I came to 55 years...Lol Now we're one of those teams with a stupid length of time between Cup wins, but we have always been a team that makes the Finals and runs into a dynasty. Not a lot you can do there except make our own dynasty.

Our hope for that lies in the hands of some young guys like Konecny, Provorov, Hart, Farabee, Frost, Allison, Foerster, York etc.

I still don't know why we overpaid Hart just to underpay Sanheim. We could've given them both what was fair and deserved, but we fucked it up.

Now Sanheim could theoretically go to arbitration on August 26th and leave us after two more seasons, which I think would be a pretty big waste of a former 1st round pick on our part.

Hopefully he signs a long term deal between now and then instead.

Yep. Agreed. I don't get how they essentially lost in the negotiation with Hart. Should've been easy to get Hart around 3M and have 5M to pay Sanheim.

I expect this one to be an arbitration hearing and that Sanheim is a short term Flyer afterwards.

Idk why we would risk losing him after two more seasons either. He was a 1st round pick in 2014, we've spent 7 years developing him, he has size, speed, a lot of offensive ability and will just be entering his prime during his next contract (assuming it is long-term).

I still say he and the Flyers agree to a new contract before August 26th, but the clock is definitely ticking here and now there's not much cap space to accommodate him, at least for this upcoming season. Likely the Flyers want him to either sign long-term for cheap or sign one season for cheap to prove himself, remain a RFA and earn a long-term deal for more money. Next season we'll have the money to pay him, assuming he earns it.

I didn't want to give up on Myers, but as they say, you have to give something to get something in big time trades. Myers was undrafted though, so we got something for nothing, so to speak.

Agreed. Not his fault the team, from the owner on down, decided to rebuild during his prime years.
Yep, look at how good Giroux was back when we had a legitimate, Cup contending team. 21 goals and 34 assists for a total of 55 points and a +13 rating in 50 playoff games. We lost a chance at those Cups for many reasons, not one of which was him.

Sanheim is the only player remaining that hasn't settled before arbitration. His is scheduled for next Thursday. With $4.03 left on the cap for next year, I don't see him signing for 1, 2 or 3 years at an average of $4.0. If we go with 22 players and not 23, the space goes to $4.9. Maybe 2 years/$9.0?

Flyers get to conference final this year and all will be well. See - not even asking for Cup final.

Sanheim signed. 2x4.675. If they go with a 22 man roster, they’re good. But that’s awfully tight.

2 years takes Sanheim to UFA.

This season is massive for the Flyers. With Couturier and Giroux UFA at the end of the year, Farabee RFA and Sanheim only signed for 2. The cap picture gets pretty bleak pretty fast.
