So you trade your best player for 2 players who are unproven in the NHL, and bring back more mediocrity to a mediocre team, sounds like the Flyers to me! I guess I'll get back to this team in about 10 years when and if their ever competitive again!

It's also reported that the Flyers passed up a trade with the Avs for Justin Barron and a 23' first round pick. If this is true then Fletcher needs to be gone immediately!

Well he definitely isn't interested winning a cup , there's no way Florida wins it even with Giroux. Sounds like he just wants some warm sunshine to retire in.

You don't think? I put Florida at a top 5 chance for sure, if not higher. Currently 3rd in points percentage. They're averaging over 4 goals a game. Ekblad, Huberdeau, and Barkov are studs. If Bob goes wild Knight is starter-quality also.

Doesn't really surprise me actually. They're going to try to retool come hell or highwater. A likely late '23 1st rounder probably doesn't help the Flyers until 24-25.

It's probably the better asset than some of what they're going to get back. But it doesn't fit Fletcher's timeline at all. If they don't turn it around faster than that, it'd be the next GM that would benefit from that deal.

Based on that, it would make sense that they're trying to get prospects drafted in the last couple years, as opposed to 1st round picks. Particularly 2023 ones.

Wouldn't be the course of action I would take. But it doesn't surprise me that's the one Fletcher seems to be taking. He believes they can bounce back into contention without tearing it all down.

I agree but adding players like Tippet and sasquatchvakov don't get anything done. Your trying to retool with unproven players, where is the impact player your going to bring in to turn around or carry a bunch of mediocre players. Giroux proved it couldn't be done here, so we're doomed to repeating a unsuccessful path to nowhere.

All depends on tanking 22/23 season for 2023 first pick..... Never a guarantee on prospects who light it up at 17/18 years old, but supposedly there are "generational players" in that draft

If we didnt trade him he would be gone at years end and we lose him for nothing. Something is better than nothing.

Sasquatchvakov made me chuckle lol. Actually an American dude despite what the name would have you believe!

But I do agree with you. These guys being talked about as a return for Giroux are essentially lottery picks. They're just hoping these guys pan out and become solid NHL contributors. That's all you can really do unless you're getting top 5 picks back. Or the high-ceiling young players that teams are refusing to deal like Newhook, Byram, and Lundell.

Listened to this live.

Ugh. Maybe Fletcher can convince Giroux that the Avs have a better shot at winning. Because while I do think FLA has a good shot, the Avs are the hands down favorite.

What in the flying hell? Tampa sending two 1sts and two decent young guys in Raddysh and Katchouk to the Blackhawks for Hagel? Who the hell is Hagel?

Seriously. Am I missing something here? 6th round pick from 2016, 37 points in 55 games this year, 24 points last year. How the hell is the return so high?

Twitter tells me it's because he's cheap. 1.5M for 2 more years.

But still..

G wants to ensure even on his departure we still won't win
Yea that's the part that gets me, if Colorado is offering the better parts, why not help out a team you've dedicated your career to? I mean IMO Colorado has the biggest upside as a team, not just this season but for the next few. He could possibly win multiple cups. I don't know but I hope in the long run he chooses wisely.

This is why I do not like having NMC or NTC in contracts. Fletcher had no leverage on where G was going. From my understanding, G turned down other teams who had better packages in return, but ultimately it was his choice. I can't fault him for that. I'll cheer for Florida to win it. Overall, imo it was underwhelming as a Flyers fan. We get a ok prospect in Tippet, 2024 1st rounder, and a 2023 3rd rounder and retain 50% of Gs contract. We lose Bunnamen, Rubotsev, a 4th rounder, and G. I got to to let this settle for a bit. My initial reaction is I hate it. Btw, I suspect more moves coming.
