This may be generational, but at what point does one have too many pitches? Like it’s cool that you have 8 pitches but can we condense it down into 3 dominant pitches
Ya never stop.working..on pitches..
You are always doing something.

Dashing my dreams of Ben Williamson.

i read the the web post up to here:

“Wilson spent time this offseason working closely with the baseball operations department to better understand modern analytics and find symmetry and align those with his priorities as a manager.”

lolol. that sounds a lot like what they the Angles PR machine said about Scioscia supposedly trying to integrate his old school managing approach with Dipoto, and we all knew how that worked out. Scioscia was a fucking idiot, though. This season, we'll figure out if Dan the Man is actually big league skipper material or if he's just another spoke in the M's huge wheel of organizational ineptitude.

edit, oh wow and i just went on and read the rest of the article and dude nailed it:

"Is this all a long-winded way of saying Jerry Dipoto - the man who famously rage quit his previous job because a former catcher and entrenched franchise icon refused to play nice with his numbers - has found himself at least somewhat beholden to a former catcher and entrenched franchise icon who may not play nice with numbers?"

and the author also questioned whether hiring Dan was Dipoto's choice. FUCCCCK NO it wasn't. and not just because of the analytics stuff, but because dan is a mariners legend and is bascially unfirable, so who will Stanton and the rest of the clowns can when the M's fail? gee i wonder.

it's going to be fun to see how jerry interacts with the press this season if (probably when) it goes to shit.

You nailed it. I read it exactly the same. Maybe this is a good thing. Maybe Wilson drives him out too.

“Data driven evidence” just means a bases loaded strikeout > sacrifice bunt with no outs
Just play baseball like it was done for a 100 years. Hate these guys.

I know I’m bitter about analytics but baseball has always been about stats so not sure why they create modern stats. Anything w automatically loses me especially after Jerry explained it crystal clear to me that it’s fake

Don't get me wrong. Scioscia was a moron. I feel like any skip who wholesale dismisses analytics is just as stupid as one who relies only on analytics.
I also don't think getting rid of Jerry changes a thing. They'll promote from within or hire another useless turd who will help them maintain the financial bottom line which is all they care about. Whether that person cares about analytics doesn't matter.

love turner speaking mostly truth, but the m's didn't miss the playoffs by 1 game. they were eliminated while 3 out of the last wild card. they didn't hold a wild card spot at all for the final 5 weeks of the season.

I mean... which stupid thing that he said was he trying to explain, here? Because every time someone has said "Did you hear what Jerry Dipoto said?" and then describes it to me, and then I read the transcript, it reads as bad or worse than how it was originally relayed to me.

I like this guy even more.

Dude was in Seattle for a couple cups of coffee and he even sees through the bullshit the FO/owners spew. I'll assume players and some coaches probably feel the same.
