I can’t believe Wilson is actually visiting. Why would we do something that makes sense?
That or Fields would be a good move.

But, RW wouldn't cost a draft pick. And I think he would be good in Smith's offense. Smith resuscitated Tanney's career and he was never close to what RW was in his prime.

With just under 10 mill in cap space....gonna have to make some cuts and/or restructure contracts.
Oh without a doubt. And If they bring in Wilson they would still have very little tied to QBs. And some of their big contracts could be restructured.

RW would be smart.

But, Fields wouldn't be a bad backup option either. But, save the pick IMO.

As much as I am intrigued by Fields not sure that top pick (1st or 2nd) round this season is worth it. They have other needs also that pick would help.

I don't like the downside to Fields personally. But I don't think we have a bigger need than QB. If they believe an answer is available they better pick up the phone and they better fucking be right. This aint Cleveland.

IMO the gap between Fields & Kenny really isn't that big. So trading for a similar player just to provide competition doesn't feel as fruitful to me. Just doesn't feel worth the high draft pick they would have to trade for him.

Getting Russ Wilson, Powers-Johnson in the 1st, and shoring up the D seems like a home run. Lower risk, higher reward.

CAP DISCUSSION

As it stands today, the Steelers are $15m OVER the cap for next year. So they will have some work to do to be cap compliant before March.

Cutting Allen Robinson will take the majority of that burden away. That's a quick $10m in cap space savings. Also, Chuks Okorafor is slated to have a cap hit of $8.75m and is likely a backup OT at this point. He either gets restructured or cut.

Other cut/restructure candidates:
Patrick Peterson - $6.8m cap hit
Larry Ogunjobi - $6.2m cap hit
Mason Cole - $4.75m cap hit
Mitch Trubisky - $2.9m cap hit

Highest Cap Hits in 2024:
TJ Watt - $30.4m
Cam Heyward - $22.4m
Minkah Fitzpatrick - $21.3m
Diontae Johnson - $15.8m
Alex Highsmith - $13.9m

Allen Robinson - $11.9m cap hit
Chuks Okorafor - $8.7m cap hit
Patrick Peterson - $6.8m cap hit

Larry Ogunjobi - $6.2m cap hit
Mason Cole - $4.75m cap hit
Mitch Trubisky - $2.9m cap hit
Keanu Neal - $2.2m cap hit

Omar is cookin, once again

Maybe I'm thinkin of Kazee, but I thought he was on the verge of a return in the playoffs (if the Steelers advanced past the Bills).

Steelers need to find a full-time SS. Edmund could come back and be that guy. Or find someone else in FA or the draft. But having a committee approach last season, I didn't like it.

Agreed. Injuries played a big part in the volatility of that position last year. I think they originally only wanted Kazee on the field in subpackages. This team is enamored with the big dimes packages with 1 less ILB on the field so I still see some sort of rotation with whomever they bring in.

There are some intriguing FA's on the market.

You can go too far with sub-package specialists. To the point you are tipping your hand to the offense with your personnel grouping.
