Going into his 4th year at age 23, he's going to need to take that step soon if ever. Trying to extend him right now is act of faith.
Meh not really. He hasn't taken the offensive leap like some thought but he is already one of the best big defenders in the league especially on the perimeter. That is as worthy,if not more worthy, than most of the rookies extended this year.

There's not a lot of top echelon rookies in that draft class is my point. Cade/Scottie/Franz at the top. Do you have Mobley in that mix, or more with guys like Sengun/Murphy/Kuminga?
Franz is putting up 19 and 5 as a 2nd option. Mobley put up 16 and 10 as a 4th option. Much better defender, Franz the better offensive player but both don't have outside shots. I would worry about Franz more since he is a wing.

I'd put Mobley at worse in that mix (of the max guys). Guessing any team with Mobley offers him a max.

Barnes put up some nice numbers too....on a bad team. I'm confident in saying if Mobley was there instead of him he could be a 20-12 guy. And maybe his elite defense leads to more winning basketball?

don't mean to be ripping Barnes as he's an exceptional player and was a great pick by Toronto.

Yep. Teams are getting very specific about which contracts they buy and ones they don't. Peeps are apparently not making player transactions anymore for the sake of just making trades or engaging in player transactions

I'd say he deserves it as much as the others from his class who got max deals.
Probably as deserving as Cade and Franz and less deserving than Barnes. There’s only been three guys who got the rookie max so far in that class.

I think deserves it as much as Barnes.....put Mobley on a bad team and he scores and rebounds more. Likely his D might even make them a little better. Barnes is also not a 20 ppg guy playing with Mitchell, Garland and Allen I don't think...at least not yet.

Fucking love it! The are going to be so many guys who in the past were worthy of the midlevel that just aren’t going to be able to get it this year because of this new CBA. Not dunking on the Lakers specifically here. Just excited that with each passing day the chance to get a dude like GTJ who should be a 12-15 million dollar a year player on the minimum increases.

This is Ifs and Buts stuff.

It’s clear at this point that Scotty Barnes is on his way to being an All NBA performer. I don’t think there are many people that wood disagree with that. Mobley COULD be an All NBA performer someday. He hasn’t shown that he can be that guy yet. He’s shown flashes that have people excited. He hasn’t shown a level of consistency that Barnes has. Barnes has already made the transition to being the first guy listed on the scouting report and he still puts up numbers. Mobley has had the good fortune of being the 3rd or 4th guy the defense worries about.

Mobley hasn’t really earned his max yet. However, as you and others have pointed out, this is often the case with the highly drafted rookies. This is the cost of doing business if you want to keep that guy on your team.

@The Q you know anything about Keshad Johnson?

Big wing/undersized 4

Epitomized heat culture

He’s tough as nails

Played a lot for that Cinderella San Diego st team two years ago

Shooting is the swing skill for him

He can rebound and defend as it is

But he’s gonna left open early on until he proves he can do it
