Some pretty good analysts on why the Caruso Giddey trade was more of a win win than a lot of people think.

It really depends on what Chicago was actually offered. If they really were offered multiple firsts, if they really did turn down the opportunity to shed LaVine by attaching Caruso then they screwed this up.

The no 1 comp on Giddey coming into the league was Lonzo, they weren’t passing that up.

Just bc he had a comp doesn’t mean he will evolve into that player. He is still very young and he can but it seemed like they wanted a young player over picks in this scenario

Of course they did, and they got a 21 year old 6 8 guy that can see the floor, pass and drive the ball. I’m glad he is getting a chance to be the guy.

Has little to do with them missing out of the chance to add picks for Caruso. The fact that they didn’t get any picks out of OKC that has picks out the ass is also unacceptable. They lost this deal on multiple levels:
1. Giddey is a one player who was exposed in his first playoffs because he’s a one way player.
2. Giddey is old Lonzo before he started to shoot the 3. Giddey is a horrible three point shooter just like Lonzo was. Giddey is a poor man’s Lonzo. He’s Lonzo when Lonzo was unacceptable because he couldn’t shoot.
3. They missed out on 1st round picks and a bidding war for Caruso at the deadline last year.
4. They didn’t even get picks from OKC when Presti has more firsts than he can use.
5. Bulls are stuck with Lavine and unable to shed him. Now that Caruso is gone it’s harder for them to add sweetener to get away from LaVine.

I didn’t even mention the fact that Giddey’s issues are now going from a team friendly media environment to a big market like Chicago with real sports media

@thunderc (for good reason) raved about OKC’s shooting specialist that came in from the Spurs that has helped everybody. Giddey is still 31%. Giddey is Ben Simmons minus the elite level defense.

Giddey upped his percentage from 31 to 34 last year. For a 2 month stretch after he regained some confidence he shot nearly 40 percent. This is the exact same trajectory Lu Dort took. I told everyone a year ago that Dorts 3 pt shooting was improving and this year he shot nearly 40 percent. I get it, but not all of you have seen Giddey play as much as I have. He flat out abuses smaller guards in the lane. Going to be fun to watch.

Lonzo shot below 50 percent from the line. That was the big red flag. Giddey is a good free throw shooter.

Yup up to 81 percent last year, which shows hope for improved shooting as well
