DLo was already a sniper. He's just gets played off the floor defensively in the playoffs. It doesn't help that he's paired with Reaves, who is only marginally better as a defender. They need to spit those two up.

No, his problems are more than just defense.

He is super skilled offensively.

But he is also a ball dominant player who doesn’t do a lot to make others better.

And it is tough to work guys like that in a cohesive offensive scheme if they aren’t your best player you are running things through.

for like a 2-3 year period Klay got paid basically a $100 million not to play and then to rehab------ but then he asks for every single penny. What a loyal guy.
Which current NBA player would have said nah, y'all keep the money....

Sure. And that is past the time Ant is a UFA.

The Spurs are betting they will be gone. The Spurs are one of the best run organizations in professional sports.

And there is a long history of young star basketball players leaving markets like Minnesota at their first opportunity to do so.

Your whole premise of Ant leaving shows a complete lack of understanding of how the current NBA works.

Go study supermax contracts and crank out some math and figure out just how much guaranteed money Edwards would be turning down at the age of 26 in order to get to FA. You are talking turning down what will be be close to a $400m guaranteed contract in order to hit FA, have to play without a guarantee for one season and hope he doesn’t suffer a major injury……all to hit free agency and only qualify for 85% of what the Wolves have already offered him. And even if he forces a trade during this contract, he still would only be able to get that 85% offer from the trading team.

In other words there are going to be roughly 60 to 75 million reasons why Edwards is going to want to sign his next deal with the Wolves and not some other team.

The Spurs aren’t betting that he will be gone. They took the offer that gave them a future 1st rounder. They had already took their lottery player in Castle and didn’t need another rookie to take a gamble on and are stashing picks for their future big move because the Spurs understand what most fans and even some teams still don’t seem to that the best way to piss away draft value is by actually making the selection. In the NBA draft, odds have shown that 2 in the bush really is more valuable than 1 in the hand.

Not as difficult in the NBA as other sports imo. You are indoors and they make so much money have multiple vacation homes.
They do have families to consider as well. Plus endorsement opportunities, taxes, etc...

I agree

Ant may want a trade out of town. But not before getting that big bag

And I only mentioned that aspect bc destination was brought up. Not to mention, they will make a lot more money staying with their current team. If their FO is good and they are contending…there is really no reason to leave

This justifies the nets move

They were basically banking on Mitchell wanting out

Trading for mark and luring Mitchell next summer was the only way their plan of hanging onto guys would’ve been able to work

I understand the math completely.

That is why the latest trend has been for the player to sign that supermax and then demand a trade later, or to seek the trade before UFA.

top level players just don’t end up playing their entire careers in small markets.

Giannis so far has, but he also won a championship. Without that, he would probably be gone too.

The difference between a supermax deal the team with Bird rights can sign is not enough to retain a player who isn’t happy where he is.

And Minnesota has a long time to keep Ant happy.

Good luck with that.

Any player in general doesn’t spend their entire career in any market. If you get a player to stay on one or two contracts after their rookie contract that is a win. I don’t think anyone is saying he will be there forever but if you expect him to ask for a trade in the next couple years, I would highly doubt that. The FO seems committed to building a great product around him when that happens, location matters very little

Eligible for 5 years and 380 million in 2027, isn't he?
Not sure exact numbers but that would be his 10 year mark so he can earn more on this contract. I believe an extra 5% of the cap

Their gm has found guys first in Denver and now minny

But he’s gonna need to stick the landing trading one of their centers to make it last
