Eh, kind of depends. IMO he is the 3rd. I think for 100% Castillo and Kirby have better “stuff” and Castillo and Ray has the resume. So depending on how he becomes the game 1 starter. Would really be a big step for Gilbert if he can go without having a month of bad pitching. Take away 2 bad months from his career and dude is a Cy Young pitcher.Gilbert could be the ace of our staff come October and get the ball game 1 of any playoff appearance.
Sooner or later it is going to click for this guy. But first he has to calm down. By now, half the pitchers he sees are pitchers he raked against or would have raked against in the minors.Obviously this is spring training so whatever, but I may have to change my opinion on Kelenic not being a 25 HR a year guy cause damn that was opposite field effortlessly.
Kelenic!!!
I don't know what it is about Castillo, maybe it's my hatred for out of shape professional athletes or the fact that he wears those gaudy chains when he pitches, but if I had to pick a guy who could implode at any moment it's him. Maybe it's just just coincidence that when I've seen him pitch it hasn't been his best outings, I don't know.I did forget to put one thing I actually do love about the analytics guys, which is “high leverage” arms in the bullpen. If the dude is a “closer” I had always wondered why he couldn’t pitch his 6th or 7th inning when they needed to slam the door. The other argument is they need specific roles, but I’d rather Castillo or insert dude having a 2 run lead in the 9th vs a tie game with the bases loaded in the 6th.
