Teoscar Hernandez, Mariners case will set arbitration record

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Outfielder Teoscar Hernandez went to arbitration with the Seattle Mariners on Friday in a case that will set a record -- win or lose.
Hernandez asked for a raise from $10.65 million to $16 million, and the Mariners argued for $14 million in a case heard Friday. The previous high for an arbitration award was $13.5 million by pitcher Gerrit Cole in his 2019 win over Houston and by pitcher Max Fried in his loss to Atlanta this year.

Miller, Kelenic and White are the guys who should have all eyes on them. If Miller and Kelenic live up to their hype and Evan White tells that analytics staff to pound sound and gets back to where he was pre Covid season. If Miller, Kelenic and White all make the team then this could make a special year. @NWinAZ are you going to be bummed if he is the 6th starter or high leverage arm in the pen. Everyone talks about him starting but then also makes this vague comments cause allegedly he is hitting 102. To me it seems Miller will start the season in the Brash’s role from last year.

I won't be bummed because I expect it. I don't agree with it, but I expect it. It is the Mariner way.

Maybe now he will sign an extension. Maybe.

Well glad I actually looked this time because I was about to do the same thing lol. But I will say looking at it, this is another new stance by Kelenic. So I just pray to god whoever he has in his ear makes him stick with the same stance when he struggles.

This article is a bit old, and the headline is definitely hyperbolic, but this has me thinking the Mariners are really wasting Brash's potential by having him in the bullpen:

The guy who said this is the pitching director of Driveline Baseball. A lot of really good players work out there.

Miller is really the only one I have much hope for, although I don't see any reason to rush him up as he hasn't pitched above AA. We've already got 6 starting pitchers + Matt Brash who I think has SP potential.

I do completely agree that it would be huge if Evan White and Jarred Kelenic are able to be even average hitters at the plate. It really would be a drastic improvement as White has a career .167/.235/.312 triple slash line in 84 games and Kelenic has only been slightly better at .168/.251/.338 in 147 games. I hope I'm wrong but I'm not very optimistic.

If White is even semi-competent at the plate that would be fantastic as we could keep France at DH. First base is probably the least important position defensively, but White has the ability to be the best defensive first baseman in baseball. When White was out there, he honestly looked like he had the range of a center fielder at first. It would be phenomenal if he's able to produce at the plate.

Apparently he's in better shape this year than last year which I'd say is a good thing. Don't really know how much conditioning really impacts pitchers, but I can't imagine it hurts.
The oldest running joke in baseball is the famous, "I am in the best shape of my life this offseason"...lol.

That wasn't a dig at you but a comment on all these players that say that. Or the old, "I added 10 lbs of muscles this offseason".
