KAT for Dame. Done deal. Anyone that disagrees with it probably sodomizes stray animals.
Actually, I really like this vision of the new look Wolves. Dame Ant and Gobert locking down the paint, screener and dunker off of pick and roll. I like the idea of two combo guards like Dame and Ant together. They may be out classed for perimeter defense but that’s what Gobert is for around the rim to erase mistakes and blow bys.

Great for Minnesota.

What is Portland getting to make them want this downgrade?

Minnesota wasted all their assets in the Gobert trade.

KAT is a reset on the time table with their young kids. Unless I’m mistaken, the Blazers still have draft assets in future years to continue to build. They might also keep Grant to help them or they can enter into a sign and trade and get some complimentary pieces around KAT Simons and Scoot. Or they could maybe do a three way trade and instead of taking KAT they can take on a series of expiring deals for next two years. There’s a lot of optionality still available for Portland in that scenario.

And wasn't Bird a better passer than Markannen?

Rodman goes to far with this but the idea isn't all wrong. The 80s were a long time ago and the athleticism and skill has increased league wide, not to mention now the best athletes all over the world play. A lot of greats from the past wouldn't be as dominant today. We say this about Bill Russell all the time, for example.

Lauri's talented, but this comparison is off by levels of magnitude. Luka would be closer, and even that comes up short IMO. The reason these guys are all-time greats is that there aren't many modern comparisons even today.

Bill is an interesting discussion, as his excellence was largely at the defensive end, but he was so far beyond most of the league at his time. How do you equate that to modern day?

In Birds case he destroyed his back building his mom a driveway. It was so bad he lost structural integrity. Unless there is a new surgery that could have repaired it better I am not sure modern medicine helps all that much. For many others I am not so sure. Curry for example started his career injury prone, the Warriors figured out it was not a leg issue, but a core muscle issue. In an earlier age I don't think that is found out. Hell, even in the modern age if The twolves draft him it is likely not getting corrected either.

At least that is what a tell myself. Makes me feel better.

In the modern NBA, is Bird even considering building a driveway? With the modern pay scale, doubtful.

Yes we know your schtick. I'll move off your lawn now. Kawhi is just one player that comes to mind who could handle Bird.

From the bench and doctor's office? He may be the one modern comparison to Bird, at least in terms of how injuries destroyed his game.

I disagreed with you that no one could ever defend him. Then you said he's top 5 all time. This convo is about what he would be if he played today. It's unlikely if his career was today he would be considered top 5 all time.

To be fair, guys that play today are typically considered top 5 of all time by people that didn't see the former greats play. It's only with more context that players get their deserved level of respect, if that's even possible given the changes in the modern NBA and athletics in general.

I think the fact they took Scoot tells you all you need to know. They play the same position.

And while Lilliard can play off the ball.....Scoot really can't since he isn't a good enough shooter.

I disagree. They took the top available asset, the only guy that teams were looking to trade to that pick for. No reason they couldn't still trade Scoot, or keep Scoot and trade their other young guards, etc. Not until these rookies get signed do the get locked in (for 30 days I believe) and become untradeable, at least temporarily.

They had to wait for Charlotte to make their pick, who used sources as a smokescreen as to who they were picking. Making a franchise-altering trade decision in 10 minutes while on the clock in the draft isn't ideal. They can consider trades like that now.
