Wood isn't a center. He is a stretch 4 so playing him out of position considering how poor his defense already is would be a disaster

He’s a 5 defensively.

But kind of a tweener

That’s why I like playing him with bam

Wood must be some kind of a malcontent if he has to take the vet minimum with the numbers he put up. I know he is a problem on defense but half the league is.
Not a lot of teams have cap space this summer is the real issue I believe. Next summer a lot more teams have cap space.

It also provides something of a "safety net" for Hayes if he were unable to get the minutes he needs because of injury.

Unless he suffers a devastating injury that is bad enough to cause him to miss all or most of the 2024-2025 season is the only way he or any player in his situation opt in for a 2nd year at the min

Yeah....Reddish 3rd on depth chart at SF behind James and Prince.

Yep, that's the thing with these kinds of deals.

Once you get past the 1st 8 or 9 players, the rest are guys that you're hoping to develop and/or who could be useful when injuries hit oir could be moved to bring in a better player around the deadline.

Only way he goes to the Heat is if the Dame trade happens and Jovic is included.

I think they will likely play Reddish at SG if they are smart

This is how my rotation would look if I'm the Lakers with the roster constructed as it is right now onopening night

Starters

Dlo
Reaves
Bron
Rui
AD

Bench
Gabe
Reddish
Prince
Vando
Hayes

That should be the only way a dame trade happens anyway

Maybe. Don't know a lot about him other than he can score and is athletic. He seems like the opposite of Vando who provides defense and rebounding, but little offense.

It could just be a numbers game for him because of the new CBA.

But I do agree that based on his numbers, we shouldn't even be talking about the Lakers possibly getting him because he should already be gone.

I agree but with what I'm seeing from Jovic in summer league, I would gladly give Portland Caleb over Jovic if that is their preference

Portland needs both

And you should still do it

Agree. The only thing I might change is that I like the idea of Vando starting because he can set the tone defensively.

But with the way Rui played, he earned 1st crack at being the starting PF.

I may be out of the loop because I don’t follow the day to day of the Lakers but I seem to recall that AD doesn’t like to play the 5 that he would rather play most of his minutes at the 4. Did I get that wrong?

You didn't get it wrong but last year he played the 5 most of the season finally

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Like I said, a safety net if something goes wrong for him and it's not looking like he's going to get the offers he'll be looking for.

And you know I never said 3rd string unless you can't read either.
Regardless if you said it, that would essentially be his role. Minimum player on this Lakers team. He could outplay Hayes but I doubt at this time in his career he wants to be competing for a backup role

If we sign Wood there is no competing for the backup role he would get it and Hayes would be 3rd string.

Vando excels at all the things nobody wants to do, and everywhere he goes it is appreciated.....but not enough to keep or play him. He is one of the best contracts in basketball.

I would start him over Rui easy. He will play gar superior defense and not need any shots which is important with the Lakers team. Let Rui captain the 2nd team.

Only shot Vando should work on this summer is that corner 3. Be the Lakers version of PJ Tucker
