Depth.

Hayes was signed for the vet minimum as will be Wood. If we get him.

Because, injuries....I shouldn't have to tell you this but it is what it is.
You think Wood would accept this role? I guess if he has no other options but doubting that. He will get a better options than a 3rd string minimum

Never said 3rd string....backup.

And yeah....teams aren't exactly beating down his door to sign him.

Exactly my point. The goal for these guys is to play well enough this coming season so they get a better offer than a vet min next summer. Going to a place where minutes are not a lock seem silly if you ask me

And you know I never said 3rd string unless you can't read either.

Wood isn't a center. He is a stretch 4 so playing him out of position considering how poor his defense already is would be a disaster

Last Dec through Jan he played just fine at C...about a 20 game stretch with Dallas and he posted 20ppg and 9rpg.

I understand it from the Lakers perspective. I don't understand it from the player side.

I'm not signing a vet min if I'm Wood or Hayes if I don't feel like minutes are a lock to me.

Hayes already signed a 2 year deal and is only 23, so he's who the Lakers would be looking to develop.

For him, it's a chance to develop AND win.

Wood would likely be a 1 year deal and would be backing up at C, PF and maybe even a little SF. Lebron and AD play 2 of those positions. From what we have seen so far, between injury and "load management" they are likely to miss around 15-20 games each.

I could also see the Lakers using Wood at C with AD at PF at times. Especially against a team like Denver who can match and even exceed the size advantage that the Lakers enjoyed vs. the Grizz and Warriors.

That provides both an opportunity to play and to have a shot at a ring.

It is a player option next summer. Young players dont opt in for a 2nd year making that small amount of money. He isn't opting in to another 2 mil next year. He will opt out and try to get a better deal

That's where the CBA is messed up for players.

Without it, I doubt we are even having this discussion. But many teams are out of/nearly out of money and it seems a few of the ones left can't offer a chance to win.

Cam Reddish and Hayes signed the same deal. Both will opt out next summer seeking a better deal than the minimum

And?

Not sure what point you're trying to make.

Depending on how the season plays out, either one could also be moved during the season if needed.

You keep mentioning Hayes is a 2 yr deal and someone they are looking to develop him. Anyone who knows basketball know it is really a 1 yr deal is the point im trying to make.

Only a delusional player would think a player would opt back in to a min contract for year 2

I don't keep "mentioning" anything. Not sure why you feel the need to claim something was being said that wasn't. Especially since you get your panties twisted and accuse others of "lying on you" when it happens to you.

I said that he was signed to a 2 year deal, which he was. The idea behind that would still be to develop him and assuming he opts out, bring him back on a better deal if both sides are agreeable, it also allows both sides to walk away if they aren't.

It also provides something of a "safety net" for Hayes if he were unable to get the minutes he needs because of injury.

"Anyone who knows basketball" would know this.

Wood must be some kind of a malcontent if he has to take the vet minimum with the numbers he put up. I know he is a problem on defense but half the league is.
